Hi, my GTX 470 fan sounds like its running at max speed as soon as I start my system!

I haven't installed windows or anything yet, but was wondering if this would be solved once the drivers are installed?

If not, what could be the problem? Its definatley not just a noisey fan, as I can hear this 2 rooms away! lol

Cheers

hmm well hard to tell really.

All fans throttle up when the system starts up.

It could just be that becuase you have no operating system on the machine, the fans are staying in that state.

Once it boots in to windows it should slow down.

This should throttle down once windows and the drivers are installed.
Although a much older card my GTS 250 does this as well - fan at full speed until the PC's almost finished booting windows.

It should be fine.

yeph it happens with me also, when i boot up my system the gpu fan is on full throttle and then settles itself down then windows starts load up, when you install windows and drivers see if there are any differences

What if you were using Linux? This does seem like a poor way of implementing fan speed control to me....

Well I assume the drivers would control the fan speed on Linux as well, i.e. once Linux has loaded device drivers when booting, the fan speeds are controlled by them.

But I know nothing about Linux so I may be wrong :)

do you have the pci-e connectors in properly
i remember my gigabyte 470 booted up with the fans at full speed if i didn't plug in both the extra connectors

Thanks for the replies!

I will be installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit shortly and will post back with results.

Yes, I have 2 x 6pin PCI-E connectors securely connected.

Cheers
