Ok i bought a cheap gtx470 to tide me over for a while...

Now i can boot and run fine but every now and again the screen goes black and it reboots, ive re-checks my OC its stable as a rock, i've tried on stock speeds and it still does this.

I googled and found it may be a driver issue switching from ati to nvidia so i formatted the comp, still does it.

Anybody had this or know what it could be, its very annoying lol

(edit) temps are fine too

im running....

Windows7HP x64
258.96 nvidia drivers
asus gtx470
Q6600
foxconn blackops
2x2gb corsair dominator
tx750 psu

cheers

Well, obvious thing to do is to download and install the latest Nvidia drivers, which were only released last few days.

Unstall current drivers, rtaher than install on top of.

I noticed you are running your Q6600 at 4ghz and 1.45v..... you say its stable and that temps are fine, and that your tried at stock settings too, but I cant stop thinking that may be the root of your problem.

You are pushing your cpu very very hard.

Is your gpu overclocked?

hmm what about your ram? Is that overclocked, or running higher than stock freq? If so, find out what the max SAFE voltage for your ram is, and see if you can up the volts on the ram.

Also, try if you can to run the ram at a slower speed... that doesnt necesarily mean running cpu slower, just different multiplier....

I would say based on my own thought that your issue is cpu or ram...

Is your 470 second hand?

Random reboots point to either:

. CPU unstable
. overheating
. ram issues!!
. psu issues

How have you confirmed cpu stability?

Can it go for 5+ hours running prime 95?

Iv just noticed your signature...... thats a lot of hardware to run of a 750wat psu....

Had this problem too when I first got my 470. I reckon it might be something to do with the drivers not working properly with power management settings, seemed to happen if I allowed the PC to go into sleep mode. I've turned off sleep mode in control panel and updated to the latest beta drivers and the problem has gone away.

hi there thanks for the reply

the drivers i have installed are the latest ones (excluding beta) and the gpu is at stock speeds, its a brand new asus card.
ram is running at 1600mhz OC and 1066mhz when cpu at stock speeds (its ddr3 dominator gt)
Ive so far tested it for 12hrs with prime and its fine
as for the psu i dont really have another to test it with,
i forgot to add before i formatted i also tested it with an 8800gt and a 4850 both did not ahve this problem, its only sprung up since i put in the 470.

bit of googling shows its a driver fault it seems and a few ppl are having the problem, so i may try the beta's as suggested and will also try turning off the power management thingy, after all we OC and run dirty big gfx cards whoc ares about a few trees :)

thanks guys

ive found out something else!!!!

in my goings-through trying to solve the problem i flashed my mobo to the latest bios, now when i thought i had solved it i hadnt
when i flashed the mobo it disabled the onboard realtek sound, the card worked all happy

re-enable realtek and it does it, seems to be a conflict with the two

guess ill go buy a cheap pci sound card and try that

posting this for info :P

after much testing duberring and general kerflumping

the problem vanishes when the onboard 1394 controller is disabled, must be a conflict with the drivers.
Ive enabled it it dies, disabled it hours of flawless operation
