Hi, I have a new GTX470 graphics card and every now and then my computer would crash, and when I turn it back on I get weird artefacts on both of my screens.

This has happened about 3 times now, but when I restart the computer again it appears to work fine again.

I have run MSI Kombustor, and the maximum temperature of the card is 62degrees.

Anyone know what could be causing this? Cause I read any dump files etc?

EDIT-
Going to RMA the card.

Thanks

Going from picture and what you describe; unless your using poor quality PSU then possible 470 RMA required due to duff memory imo. :(

Does look like dodgy gpu memory, i had the same happen on a gtx 280, could run furmark fine, but once in a game it started to artifact like your pics.

I downloaded MemtestCL and tested the GPU memory which gave 0 errors.

Going to RMA the card.

Cheers

Hey what monitor base swindle thing are you using, because it looks awesome, also do you need special monitors to connect to it properly(sorry about being off topic).

PS hope your new cards work fine.

Just received this email about my GTX470.

Graphics card passes all Tests with no issues, Tests Run: Crysis WarHead, Furmark, 3Dmark Vantage, AVP, Lost Planet 2, Stone Benchmark MSI Kombuster, Resident Evil Benchmark, ATI Mecha, ATI Ladybug, Streetfighter Benchmark and heaven benchmark tool, these were all tested at 1920 x 1200 resolution running maximum settings, tested on DX9, DX10 and DX11 where applicable, there was no issues apparent.)

That leaves me wondering what it could be? I did expect this to happen, as the tests I ran myself passed with 0 errors too.

Could my CPU be causing the artefacts? (Overclocked).. I’m off to Google! lol.

Overheating Northbridge or faulty system RAM can cause that. It can also be caused by BGA solder failure - which doesn't have a regular pattern sometimes it might work fine and the slightest change in temps set it off.

I ran memtest86 on all 3 sticks of ram, and it passed all of them.

I will check how hot the Northbridge gets once I receive the GTX470 back.

BGA solder failure, where? Motherboard or the GTX470? Either way, I hope not! lol

GPU - usually happens during the GPU heating up or cooling down phase so typically happens just after/during boot up, 5-30 minutes after starting a game or ~5 minutes after stopping a game.

I have never had any artefacts whilst in windows, in game or anything.

The only time I have artefacts is once the system boots back up after it has automatically restarted after the system has crashed.(Just as its about to load Windows) - But a quick press of the reset button fixes this, until it crashes in windows again.

Is there a mini dump file I could read in windows?

Cheers
