Just bought a Gigabyte GTX 480SOC from OCUK and installed the drivers that came with the card and ran OC guru to watch temps etc for first test.

Games and Heaven show green triangles after a minute at stock settings/voltages (out the box).
Tried nvidia driver & still had artifacts at stock settings.

I have a CoolMaster 750w PSU and a awell ventillated case with a QuadG0 on water cooling.
Never had artifacts with the previous GTX470.
Im taking the card back to OCUK now.

Here are the screensots if anyone is interested, sorry aabout the size, but needed to show all info:

Normal out the box Auto:

1.088v which is normal for a GTX480

FIXED IT....

Took it back OCUK & they tested it with Corsair/Enemax 800/1000w PSU's & it ran fine out the box: 820 @1025mv.

Obviously my 750w Coolmaster is not good enough! Even with a claimed 80proof & 60amps for the 12v.
I then removed my Asus Zonar (which uses an external molex) & the 480soc is now nearly artifact free at 820, if I increase the voltage to 1138mv it appears stable at 820, but hits 105c with the fans at 100%.

Whats interesting is watching the 12v rail, which drops to 11.71 but when the 3 fans fire up to 100% this drops to 11.65.
Ironic how the graphics card fans could push the power requirements over the edge.

Hmm, so im going to have to get at least a Corsair 850w when I can afford now :/
Even though it only says a 650w is required.
Maybe everyone with issues over this card just need a better PSU ?

Yeah, at 1138mv when running firmark I just discovered it stays at 105c for a few mins then throttles back to 405Mhz. This is hardly desirable.

I think Im going to have undeclock it to keep the temps down so it does not throttle :(
My case is well ventillated too.

I dont know if they noticed the temps or throttling when they tested it at OCUK, they may even have had a motherboard on a bench in a cold warehouse?

Even underclocking the CPU & disconnecting the DVDrom to reduce the power consumption does not enable it to run at stock voltage/settings.
I even tried it in my other rig: which has a Corsair 620w & it artifacted a little more.

Im stuck until I get a quality 850w PSU, as OCUK testing yielded no errors.

I think I could get it running stable at 800Mhz in the meantime though...

My mobo is an old P35 DQ6, which was a high end board 3 years ago, it is x16 PCIe.
Also tried it on another P35 DSr3, both Gigabyte.

Well, after lots of testing & removing the Zonar & increasing the voltage to 1088mv, everything runs fine now at stock clocks.
Just been playing Crysis1 for an hour & never saw any artifacts at max 1080p, also firmark runs fine now. Both these are now maxing out at 85c which is strange as earlier firmark maxed at 105c. Maybe it needed burning in?

Looks like it just needs 1088mv to run at stock with my setup, as default was 1025mv.
I dont know how OCUK ran it at 1025mv, unless a better PSU auto runs the card higher?

Im not enthralled it may not overclock much more if anything, but at least its running at stock now :)

Yeah I bought the card because my other card went in a media rig & I need something with a bit of grunt for Crysis2 NEXT MONTH WHEN ITS ITS IN DX11. Fancy them not want to hurt console sales, even the PC DX9 version looks lots better lol.

I have not done a lot of testing yet.
Maybe there should be a thread of graphics cards with what clocks/voltages have been reached? To help others thinking of buying a particular card.

yeah you could be right - in a dillema now - as I've no idea if card or PSU

testing in my 380W HTPC not going to happen .... lol

if I buy a 100 quid PSU - say a Corsair 850 - I'd be well unhappy if it was the GPU after all

darn

YEAH, same issue I have. I want to put my Zonar back in & run the card at stock voltage & maybe overclock it to 850Mhz as it says you can on the back of the box.

Oh, was the box to your 480soc not wrapped in celophane & the static bag of the card just have normal tape on it?

does look far better :) thats way over stock volts though ?

As near to 1088mv as I could get it.The Gigabyte OC Guru is a bit dodgy in slecting the volts.
I thought 1088mv was normal for a GTX480.
Actually the Heaven benchmark now runs without artifacting at stock 1025mv. Although Heaven does not push the GPU as much as OCCT or firmark.

Wow, I thought I had a raw deal.
Id like see the OCUK rig running these cards error free at stock voltage when mine & other peoples fail.
I dont think I'll be getting a PSU higher than 750w now, considering a 1000w fails too.
Obviously most, if not all of these cards cant run at stock volts/speed & are therefore faulty.

Add to the fact that OCUK are selling the gt440 with an advertised RAM speed of 1800, when its actually 1066 after I returned mine & they tested it to confirm; but still not corrected the website leads me to believe in some shady goings on at OCUK.
Reminds me of the time I returned an external drive because it was clicking all the time & was charged £10 for testing, then it died a month later.
Maybe their testers dont know what they're doing?
