GTX560ti horizontal ripples?

During a game, there are constantly horizontal lines on the screen creating a ripple effect. When im not playing a game this goes away, what could be the cause? :confused:

Tried turning on V-Sync? Maybe checking the cables etc.. Could be a bad gpu (when under 3d) or monitor

yeah, v sync is on and the refresh rates are correct for the monitor.
Ive checked the cables and reseated the GPU. also installed earlier drivers to see if it was the new one playing up :/
the monitor is 4 a 4 year old lg flatron, but its ok when im not gaming

Any other machine/videocard/monitor to rule out each component?

I had the same thing once. It only happended in games. It turned out it was my monitor. I would borrow a monitor to test things if you don't have a second one of your own.

i'll try it on the TV tomorrow, it does happen all the time but very faintly (just took a very close look). TBH id rather it be the GPU as that is still under warranty

Funnily enough I get a similar thing here with my MSI 560Ti.

Screen is fine when in Windows. Play a game and there's a noticeable horizontal band that moves from the top to bottom of the screen constantly.

If you search google for '560 ti horizontal band' you'll get quite a few hits related to other Nvidia cards.

Is this more than one game?

For example ; Vsync does not work in Borderlands whether you enable it or not.

The lines do appear on a different monitor, but not on Fraps recordings! surely if they appear on 2 different monitors, the GPU would be at fault, and therefore it would always show up the issue? and if it were the monitor, the issue would also be there constantly?
ive tried clocking the card at reference speeds, upping the volts, lowering the volts, putting all fans at 100% to make sure there was no cooling issue anwyhere.

Could it be the VGA cable? is there anything else to do before buying a new cable, or dealing with the Dreaded ASUS RMA procedure?

Another thing, i was having issues with lock-ups, which seem to have stopped, could the PSU be at fault?

I had this effect with a Sapphire graphics card many moons ago. Had to RMA it, faulty card.

It was evident from new. Has yours always been like this, or is it a recent event?

ive only just noticed it, though its not something I would have no realised happening.
OCUK will be wondering what i do with my PC soon, first my power supply, now this

Ive had this problem before, it seemed to happen because of a vga to dvi adaptor. We have almost 2 identical samsung monitors in this house, one with dvi and one with only vga. Had this problem on the vga monitor using vga to dvi adapter but not on the dvi monitor, With the exact same system.

I swear i read somewhere that blue dvi ports are vga to dvi friendly and that white dvi ports are not? but I cant confirm this.

Problem is most likely you need a digital monitor whith a dvi or hdmi port.

I had this exact problem with an Asus 560Ti TOP, also with an LG Flatron monitor connected by VGA, in the end i returned the card

same thing with my 560ti 448 . DVI to VGA lines on screen so changed it to hdmi to dvi problem solved .

Yeah probably a good idea, but just to be safe if you can get a hold of any sort of monitor/tv with a digital output try the pc on that first to see if gets rid of the problem. If it does then you know for sure you just need a new monitor.

Good point, ill get hold of a mini hdmi adapter and try it through hdmi on the TV

You do not have a strong electro magnetic source near your monitor do you, Many moons ago I had a Geforce 256, and when i played anything i saw faint rippling type lines on my screen. Turned out it only happened when I had the TV on next to my monitor!
