Have you had any issues or performance increase/decrease with the latest drivers?
Have you found that staying with older drivers has worked better?
I've had a little look around t'web and have seen conflicting reports as always.

Mainly play BF3/Metro 2033 and a variety of other less demanding titles.

Reason I ask is that I've folded and provisionally bought a 580 matrix platinum on the MM (sorry Matt!). This may have been a mistake, it may not. We'll find out :D

Anything else I need to look out for, apart from my electric bill?

Matrix Platinum is a gorgeous card.

TBH a mate of mine just sold his 580 with an arctic accelero on it (sic) and he said he sees no difference with the 7970 he just bought.

An overclocked 580 can still do what a stock 7950 can so that's more than enough for near on any one. Single screen 1080p you're laughing.

I would post on the Nvidia or EVGA forums and ask the nice people there what drivers you're better off with :)

Currently, no issues to report with my 580 (313.96). Performance has never been higher.

My experience:

Early 3xx series forceware (6 months ago?) had all manner of issues with the 500 series, ranging from artefacting to CTD/BSODs in more intensive games.

However, more importantly, 313.96 downclock the card properly on idle. For the past 20 or so driver revisions the 580 has run at full clocks 24/7, leading me to keep nvidia inspector's multi-display power saver running at all times when I'm not gaming - despite only using a single display.

Enjoy your new card. As Andy said, you're laughing at 1080p. I've had mine for more than 2 years and I feel absolutely no need to upgrade whatsoever.

Cheers guys.

Yeah, I'm at 1080p/60hz and I'm not a hardcore gamer or someone that absolutely has to max everything. 2xAA is perfectly fine with me in BF3 for example :)
It may be sacrilege, but I probably won't even OC it beyond what it can do on stock volts given the jump in wattage demand from what I've read.

Haven't had a green team card since my GF3 lol! No fanboy for either side here. If the price is right, I'm in :D

I'm almost back baby!
3 months without a GPU sucks for even a casual gamer like me... I even found myself enjoying a bit of BF3 on a mate's xbox despite using a pad and it looking horrific and underpopulated.
Christ, I even found myself playing ME2 using the IGP @720p min settings with a zoomed up window...

I played through BF3 on a 6970L 2GB and it was fine with 4XFSAA.

It's just vram. If you run out you're in trouble but the 580 is about perfect tbh.

Should be ok. Hopefully...
I never saw more than 1.6gb usage when maxed out with the 7950 and was quite happy with the 1Gb 5870 using FXAA before that.

In the event that it isn't up to the task, I shouldn't have a problem shifting it on without losing much, if any money.

It'll be fine seriously. The 6970 Lightning still can't match an overclocked 580. I'm not sure on these newer titles but tbh they're crap games any way (sleeping dogs and hitman).

Crysis 3 may bother it but then no doubt it'll be a bit crud in single player (though I hope not).

Sleeping dogs was dead to me after I completed it, Hitman isn't my cuppa and Crysis 3 is doggy doo imo. No worries there :)

I have real difficulty in finding games that I can bothered with tbh. It's pretty much BF3, F1 2012, ME2+3 and that's about it right now.
Even Metro sat there for ages before I gave it a go. I still found it a bit of a mission to get into and haven't progressed very far.

You're right, the 580'll do me just fine for a while.

GTX580 user here, not noticed any issues (have Gigabyte Windforce OC version).

I had been wondering whether or not to swap for a GTX670, but think I'll wait for the next generation.

Haven't got much use out of th GTX580, as my PC was in storage due to a house move :(

It was the one that Dane was selling :D I had to pass on it unfortunately.
Still, after a minor setback, things are looking up and I'm back in the hunt for a 7950/7970 although a couple of used 660ti's are looking good for the price.

Decisions, decisions...
