GTX580 SLI query ?

If I SLI'ed my GTX580 3gb with a GTX580 1.5gb card would I still have 3gb VRAM to play with ?

No, you'd have 1.5GB (mirrored)

actually, it don't think it would work at all - Nvidia cards no longer support running mismatch VRAM amounts

there used to be an option in "coolbits" but nvidia drivers no longer include coolbits

just checked and found this;

EVGA say it doesn't work.

I called evga with that same question and here's the answer i got: You can not SLI regular 580 with the 3GB version!

Can I use the GTX 580 3 gb card inSLI with the GTX 580 1.5gb?


Even two 1.5GB GTX 580's don't always play nicely in SLI.

Thanks for the replies guys , for some reason I thought the 'master' card dictated the VRAM amount and the second card was pure processing power only

I always thought one of the pre-requisites for SLI is that the cards have to be *exactly* the same?

Not exactly the same just the same chip and ram really, i think u can get a 1.5Gb card to work with a 3Gb card using hacks but it's pretty pointless anyhow as the 3Gb card is just wasted.
