Afternoon
Apologies for the similar subject to a current question, but hopefully I've not broken any forum etiquette.

Looking to build a wife friendly desktop, which will more than likely be in the living room. To keep it wife friendly budget wise, I'm probably not going to manage a gtx970, so was looking at the gtx960 - main reason is that it appears to be very quiet, and it hits circa £150 (evga superclock card with £15 cash back) whilst still doing OK in 1080p games. Whilst looking at the benchmarks it appears the 280x regularly beats the gtx960 and has the added safety net of 3gb vram, and the OC bgrade price of £140 looks very tempting.

Is the 280x going to make substantially more noise than the gtx960, leaving me with a whinging wife?

Cheers

the 280X is essentially as radeon 7970 so why not try getting one of those used. They go for around £100-£130. A vapor-x version would be pretty quite.

Thanks for tips guys. Been having a bit of a look around for info today, and I'm thinking, reluctantly, that the gtx960 might be the best way to go.
