GTX970 no display with dvi

so ive completed my first ever build and got it all running with a hdmi, but i have a 144hz monitor so want i preferably want my display to come through a dvi cable untill my display port cable arrives. the only issue is that i cant seem to get a display with a dvi cable it just says no signal. my friend was round whilst i did the build and did something when it was all booted up that got it working but after a restart it stopped and i unable to ask him what to do. any advice on what i can do to correct the situation?

Have you tried a different cable and to see if that port works on the monitor, another computer with that port?

yeah ive tried the port on the monitor with an older computer and it works fine, perhaps its a dodgy port on my gpu? hopefully not!

yeah im using the same cable when i try it with a different computer and it works perfectly, im wondering if theres some sort of bios setting i could change?

doesnt 1440 require a dual link dvi, where as a lower res like 1080p doesnt hence why cable may work on other PC?

yeah its a dvi d cable, im just confused as it definitely worked once and now nothing, ill have a display port cable for it tommorow which will hopefully work
