GTX980 Graphic card issues?

Hi All,

i have manged to get a cast off GTX 980 from work to replace my ageing GTX780 and tide me over till i buy a new rig. I installed it last night without a hitch and used DDU to remove the old drivers. this card needed a Mini Display port so bought one of them as well. its up and running fine however i am expeinceing the following, i hope someone can advise me on what i can try next here or that its a sick card.

-- hangs when loading stuff such as some website graphic, the mouse cursor hangs sometimes for a bit before jumping to a new location
-- Task bar flickers from time to time, seems ok this morning though
-- in some games it also hangs for a second, was playing COH1 to test
-- sometime the videos stagger and i hear a glitchsound before returing to normal, epecially if doing other things. like refreshing a web page

cards temps are around 36 degrees C on idle. GRD 537.42 LG monitor set at 144Hz with FreeSync extended on( not sure here plz advise)

Hope its not somthing wrong with the card, its great finally having a high refresh rate.

When I had a gtx980 Strix I found I needed to back the stock factory OC clocks off a bit or was unstable.

Not sure what brand yours is but maybe the same?

May need to run this firmware update, it will tell you if it's needed or not and works on all Nvidia cards listed AIB or FE models, had to run it on my 980ti in the past to make it work correctly on new setup at the time.

the one i recieved was a PNY one, i did the Firmware update, it was needing one thanks very much for that! i didnt know you needed to do that with graphics cards. first i had heard of it.

its been fine since i took that card out and re seated it in the port and moved a few leads around. it was eiather not being in the PCI-E slot correctly or some interference / static from other cables. its an old card thats probably been laying on a shelve for quite sometime

if you all have any other tips for this that might be worth doing please let me know,
