GTX980ti hitting power limit at 85% TDP

Hi :)

I was talking about this in the owners thread but that is quite busy and wanted to split this out.

I have just received a Zotac GeForce GTX 980Ti AMP Extreme Edition and I wanted to see how far I could push it. However before I started I did a few tests to see how it would run.

So first I ran a furmark to see it hit the power cap and what clock speed it would get. This are a few pics from AB and GPU-Z:

What is weird here is the clock speed and also that GPU-Z states that the PerfCap reason is PWR yet shows 62.1% TDP, yet AB shows 91%.

So I ran a Firestrike Extreme test and the following was the result:

So a bit better but still not hitting the 100% TDP but there was no PWR perfcap occuring, however I then added 75MHz to the core and raised the power limit to 111% and it still stayed at 85%.

Any ideas on what could be going on?

Thanks - I tried that, no difference.

Tried the latest hotfix driver too, and increasing the power limit to 111% again and it still caps out at 75-85% in GPU-Z or 99-100% in AB.

This is really odd, it is like the setting doesn't apply.

Urgh, the AMP cards aren't great. I was trying to avoid being a negative nanny, but the voltage regulation on them is weak to say the least. I would contact Zotac and see what they say.

Don't know what other amp extreme owner are getting but am Currently at 1520 on the core and stable at stock volts

no crashes or artefacts even on bf4 which hated my clocked 290.
Running at around 66c and is daily quiet couldn't be happier with the card

Power consumption settings??
Just set the power limit to max in afterburner and raised the clock not finished yet just taking it slow.

OK below are 3 different images with GPU open i still don't understand whet difference the setting makes, card runs fine for me.

Bf4 pic didn't come out right was showing 84 in afterburner.

Thanks Yulaw - The TDP looks wrong to me, but I am assuming this is a bug atm.

What settings do you have in AB, just power = 111 and clock at?

One other thing that is odd for me is that if I run furmark it causes the clock speed to drop to 885MHz.

Oh it gets better. If I run the fans at a higher speed so the core is cooler the speed of the core drops by 100MHz. It is like it is stealing power from the core, so not only does it throttle at higher temps, it then ramps up the fans which then cause it to throttle more.

I have a support ticket in with Zotac and have asked for an RMA from OCUK.

Sounds very odd cant say i have noticed any throttling max temp the card has reached is 72 on the witcher 3 defiantly get it looked at.
