Guess What? Another Spec Check :)

Well after a year of my shiney new pc gradually becoming less and less powerful compared to the competition, I have decided that it is time for an upgrade.

The PC will basically be used for gaming, and it would be nice if it could last longer than a year (unlike my current at-the-time-top-spec-pc with me stupidly buying a card without pixelshader 3). At the moment I'm not running vista because of the MAJOR performance / compatability issues at this time. So I'll probably wait at least a few months before considering it (but want to be prepared for it, hence the 4GB ram)

Firstly, I'll let you lot know what I'm thinking about getting... Something along these lines:

Any advice on this spec.? I will be clocking the e6600 to 3GHz+, what speeds do you think i can get with that air cooler? Is it really required if all i wanted was a speed of around 3GHz? I have thought about "downgrading" to the E6420, seeing as they're basically the same thing, but am not really fussed with the price difference. I probably should save the 30 quid, buy the cooler, then outclock it anyway, but that's not a mega issue. Would be nice to get 3.5GHz with a 40 quid cooler as opposed to leavin it at 3GHz with stock cooling.

Another point is the RAM. I am STRONGLY considering to scrap the 4GB (only really just thought of it, in case i wanted to go vista) and go back to my originally planned Crucial 2GB (or that GeiL stuff for 65 quid). Any advice on this?

I will probably wait for the newer graphics cards to come out anyway, but the one in the pic will do for a quick spec check.

+ I unfortunately bought the Razer barracuda headphones, through constant buggings from people sayin how good they are, but they are pretty pants with my onboard sound, which is why i am considering the barracuda sound card (ye, lots of knowledgeable people would call me an idiot here but hey :D ). So now am thinking i should auction them off and buy a pair of Sennheiser 595s with a cheapish x-fi sound card, savin myself near 100 quid (seeing as surround sound headphones are clearly just a gimmick, found it out the hard way  ).

+ Will the case be sufficient for the cooling? I assumed it would be with the mega fan at the front. Unfortunately I'm one of these picky people who will only buy a case if it looks decent as well as cools properly, hence the fact that I wont buy proper cases :P

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,
Chris

I would probably think about it. It's a sort of backup plan if i can't afford an entire pc i could just add another GFX Card.

But no i wont go SLI at the mo., not a big enough performance boost, but would like to be prepared for it (for the extra 50 odd quick for a decent mobo and PSU, im not that fussed).

It's that sort of "If i want to i can" feeling.

has anyone got the soundcard / headphones?

are they worth it? or should i just auction them off and buy some senni's?

Here:

Personally i don't think you need 4GB at this point in time

Probably not, but the prices are rock bottom at the moment so he might as well go for it now.

definatly dont need the soundcard as you mentioned in your other thread you should sell the barracudas and get 595's and a x fi youll be a lot happier.

a company that speacialized in headphones and a company that is known for making really good soundcards will probably be a lot better than the razers..

@ Stickroad thanks, but how would the OCZ 4GB stuff in the first pic compare to it?

@ Egosh yeah cheers, that's what i thought. Anyone want 'em? :P

The Crucial Memory is a lot better than the OCZ. The only reason to go for the OCZ memory is so you have 4GB of Ram. If you do you will need a 64bit O/S.

ye i think ill go for 2GB ballistix for now then, might add some more later.

Only thing im unsure about now is the cooler + case. Would be nice to get 3.4GHz + with them, you think what i've got will do the job?
