There have been a fair few threads asking about configuring and fans for the Corsair Hydro units, so I thought it best to try and add all the information into a single thread for ease of reference.

Available Coolers

Installing Corsair Hydro Units

Installing these units is pretty much the same as any other cooler, but if you need guidance, here is the Corsair Guide to installing the Hydro series.

Configuration

This is specifically looking at confuguring the H80i and H100i, the other H models do not have the interface to Corsair Link.

Corsair Link is a software solution which allows you to setup fan profiles which control the fans connected to the unit. There are 7 profiles available:
  • Quiet Mode
  • Balanced Mode
  • Performance Mode
  • Custom Curve
  • Fixed RPM
  • Fixed %
  • Maximum Speed
  • Default mode

Each of the above profiles will set the min/max fan speed according to their own settings, but I'm really wanting to focus on the 'Custom Curve'. I'm unsure if many use this fantastic feature, so here goes.

Custom Curve Profile
The custom curve allows you to specify at what speed with the fans hit in accordance to the temprature. The interesting part about the Custom Curve is the fact is uses the coolent temp to regulate the RPM, not the CPU temp.

I appriciate some may be skeptical regarding this method, but from the 10 ish months I've had my unit, Real Temp has never reported temps considered to be threatening to the life of the CPU while using this profile.

My profile, using custom curve is as follows:

Stage Temp Fan Speed
Point 1 25 0
Point 2 28 350
Point 3 34 350
Point 4 37 900
Point 5 40 1500

When using the stock fans, they were idling at 425rpm and underload, getting to 1100rpm. Considering I'm still using the stock fans, I can assure you that at these speeds, I'm unable to hear them over my GPU when gaming and even less so when simply web browsing - they are superb.

So, unless you're looking for asthetics, the stock fans do a superb job using this profile method.

Windows 8.1 Regiestry Fix for Corsair Link
Corsair are aware of an issue with Windows 8.1 and Corsair Link and are working on a fix. In the mean time, the following will allow the use of Link on this OS.

This has been taken from the Corsair User Forum;

So navigate to this path in Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_1B1C&PID_0C04

You should find one or possibly more folders of random numbers, letters, and ampersands. Under each of these folders will be a "Device Parameters" folder which has the following four important strings:
AllowIdleIrpInD3 = 1
DeviceSelectiveSuspended = 1
EnhancedPowerManagementEnabled = 1
SelectiveSuspendEnabled = 1

Change each of these to a value of 0 (zero) and reboot.

To revert these changes, just change the values back to 1.

You will now have the ability to control the fans using Corsair Link.

Which Replacemet Fans
There have been numerous threads around which fans to use so to give a list of those deemed suitable replacements, the following have been tested by other forum members, so I'm using their experience.

Corsair SP120 Performance Edition (Same as the stock fans with higher RPM)
Noctua NF-F12 IndustrialPPC
Alpenfohn Wingboost 2 PWM (Currently using)
Akasa 120mm Piranha high performance PWM air ripper blade fan
Akasa AK-FN058 Apache Black Super Silent 120mm Fan - 4 Pin PWM

I cannot think of anything more to add, but if you think of something, let me know and I'll add it. If people are finding this useful, I'll request a sticky :)

Let me know what you think!
