Not another guide! Ah but this one's purpose is to get you up to speed for playing on the OcUK server. *I am not an expert in the game so some elements may need clearing up by others. This guide assumes you know the game control basics (mainly the left context menu and using the mousewheel).

Server Details including TeamSpeak

Server Guidance
Key Points for not getting kicked/banned:
  • Add [OcUK] to your profile to gain more leniance. This does not make you immune to kick/bans for not following the below.
  • Dont TeamKill.
  • Dont go AwayFromKeyboard for ages.
  • Dont take vehicles you have no intention or capability of performing their role for. In particular the wreck chopper or support vehicles (marked on the map)
  • Do not shoot out tyres on vehicles.
  • Do try and join TeamSpeak.
  • Do pay attention to the chat system. The chat system is very important if you are not using TS. Use the < and > keys to change channels and / to engage the chat box. Each channel has a purpose as follows:
global - message goes to everyone
group - everyone in your squad
vehicle - everyone in your current vehicle
command - all officers can chat without peasants hearing
    direct - immediate vicinity players

Gametype: Domination
We play custom maps on the OcUK server and the most popular is domination. Domination is basically clearing towns of enemy forces and an objective (destroy the radio tower, kill the govenor etc). Custom maps define more than you'd think though. They also determine what special and basic functions are available, which is quite confusing. So if we arnt on a domination map (press m to go to map and check the top right hand corner for the current map I believe) then the following wont apply.

Key Domination Gameplay Points:
1) Special functions -
  • teleport to MobileHQ (flagpole at airbase and the actual MHQ vehicles)
  • parajumping to hotzones (flagepole at airbase and defeated towns)
  • bonus vehicles (awarded for clearing towns, can include planes, tanks, AA, helicopters)
  • vehicle wrecks, wreck repair chopper (indicated as chopper but with W not number)
  • support vehicles (R1, R2, F1, F2 for Repair truck 1, 2 and Fuel 1,2 etc)
  • artillery support
  • only vehicles listed on map (not players or teammates depending on server difficulty)
2) Anyone can fly but don't if you don't know how (learn off-line first).
3) Basic functions (dependant on server/map settings) -
  • No player markers on map
  • No GPS

Lobby
You've just joined the server and you see a list of players and positions in the middle. Here you get to select your role. Pay close attention to whats available whether you want to be a medic (corpsman), AT, AA, Sniper, Leader, Artillery Support or Engineer. Click an open slot to move to that role and hit connect. For this guide we select a rifleman in L33's squad.

Infantry Guide

Spawn and Loadout:
So you've spawned and nothing makes sense. Your team is miles away (press space and look about for your leader marker) and you've got an M16 without scope. Don't take out your frustration on the various AFKers at the airbase!
First - Lets get our load-out sorted. Being a rifleman we've been given a pretty poor deal. Head to the airbase flagpole, here is everything we need including a big box of guns. Go to it and scoll to "gear" and left click. Now your gear is on the right and whats in the box on the left. We want something scoped, so we choose an M16 with ACOG. But we also want to defend ourselves against AT so we're taking a SMAW too. Don't forget to take a SMAW HE (High Explosive) rocket! Rockets take up a lot of ammo slots, but you should have enough. (Beware some classes don't let you carry very much i.e. artillery support and engineers)

To the Fight!
Getting to the hotzone is done in two ways. Find a chopper to transport you or use the flagpole at the airbase to teleport to a Mobile Respawn point (MHQ). (Do not move the MHQ unless told specifically to do so).
Telporting (Fastest method):
Head to the actual flagpole at the airbase and scroll to teleport (you need to be pointing directly at the pole and close). You will get a small map menu with some buttons on the right. Press either MHQ1 or 2 and the map should scroll to the location of that MHQ. Pay close attention to the map because if the MHQ is out of position or the town has been taken you dont want to go there yet. In this case MHQ1 is north of the hotzone but running distance, so we press 1 and then press teleport. Weeee!
Flying:
Find someone who can fly and is flying a BH with number 1, 2 or 3. (Don't get in the heli with W on the map!).. get in their chopper.. wait a bit.. get out when you land. Done.. slowly..

So we're at the hotzone, best to get our bearings. Hold space and have a look about for your leader marker. He shouldnt be too far (unless there are two hotzones and you've teleported to the wrong one! uh oh! best go to the MHQ1 and activate the teleport NB. from the MHQs you can't teleport back to the airbase, only to the other MHQ, if you want to get back to the airbase fast, press Esc and respawn)

ID'ing Friend from Foe

Ok, we've found L33 and he's 200m South in the town. Better get a jog on. Upon visual of L33 we must be careful. There are other squads in the town and friendlies mixed with enemies. Before taking a shot press spacebar to ID them as friendly or foe! Watch out for enemy bodies showing red they can confuse your HUD.

FOE!
You've been running so your aim is well off. You need to lay down for a hope of getting a decent shot off (Z). You want to be in semi auto (press F to scroll weapon modes in the top right corner). You also need to activate your scope (right click). Line up the enemy in your site, account for wind and distance. Hold right click to hold your breath and hit left mouse! A miss, but that puff of smoke indicates how far you are off.. adjust and fire some more rounds. Red mist! And he is down. But whats this.. you didnt look around properly and that shot has just alerted all enemies to your position. A BMP is heading to you. Lucky we brought a SMAW, but **** we didnt reload it before teleporting out! Quick reload!.. Damn! Too late, pelted by the BMP. Back to the airbase.. and to starting it all gain.. lesson learnt!
