**Guide to upgrading the MSI GX660 Hard drives to SSD **

Thanks for the help so far.

I've hit another problem.

Currently I have 2x500GB on Raid 0. Theres 11GB allocated for the Recovery Partition, this is used when I press F3 during boot MSI recovery Manager boots up.

I understand that when I replace 1 HD with an SSD I will lose this partition

But how can I create a recovery partition after I install Win7 on the SSD? I want to still be able to use F3 if I need to.

I tried to look in to MSI Recovery Manager but couldn't find anything.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

MSI F3 wouldn't work because it will only work if you haven't anything with the primary partition where your OEM Windows 7 home premium is installed. If you did a fresh intall, it wouldn't on F3. I have had that problem. Only fix was to wipe out any changes and use the 3 recovery discs to reset factory settings.
Really strange.

I don't know why they are so strict.

Ahhh so if they are strict I basically HAVE to void warranty to install SSD + storage drive? That kinda sucks if so :( It's quite a decent warranty too (2 years) so it would be a shame to screw with it.
Has anyone done the clean install and confirmed the turbo etc buttons still work fine?

This is with write-back turned on (its a laptop so unless I let battery die TOTALLY it's fine).

Don't understand your problem ???

If you change your HDD for a SSD, or add more RAM, this won't void warranty. Just clone your HDD on the SSD with Acronis True Image Home and nothing will change on your system, except everything will run faster... ;)

Sorry to necro this thread but it's useful.

The problem I had is that unlike a lot of laptops the drive bay is all part of the bottom panel access to processor/memory etc etc and is covered with a warrenty sticker over one of the screws you'd need to undo to access them.

However, I had a read around on the MSI support site and found these useful quotes:

Will breaking the 'warranty void if removed' sticker invalidate my warranty?

You can upgrade your notebook, by adding in more memory, replacing the HDD etc, without invalidating your warranty.

You'll have to break any 'warranty sticker' you see covering a screwhole in order to do so, but providing you do not cause any damage in the process, your warranty will not become void.

***NOTE: Below MSI upgrade rules does not apply to units bought through stores which hold their own warranty, service and support (such as Argos), please always check first with your place of purchase if their own procedures apply for your unit or are you under warranty directly with MSI***

To upgrade the memory or harddrive the warranty seal has to be broken, this however will not void the warranty as the user is allowed by the European law to upgrade his memory and harddrive.

Note that MSI does not give any warranty for your purchased RAM/HDD, nor does it give warranty for any problem resulting from your added RAM.

We do not provide warranty on software so you can install your own OS as you please, as long as it won't damage the hardware. As for VGA upgrade, we allow only memory and HDD upgrades, GPU upgrades will not be covered under warranty, we also do not upgrade such therefore if you do choose to do it the warranty would be void

If you are not confident or unsure how to replace your components, you should seek assistance from your nearest MSI Service centre.
