Hi folks,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I woner if anyone can help me, I have some really poor performance on Guild Wars 2 even though I am way above the minimum requirements. System spec. as follows:

VTX3D HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9)

I struggle to get over 20 fps when I clearly should be much higher. I don't have the best of internet connections so would that in any way affect me as it's an MMO? Average download speed on Steam is around 200-300kb/s.

P.S. I also have this problem with Planetside 2

Many thanks,

Dan

For GW2 the game is mainly CPU dependent when you got a fast enough graphic card. You can double-check by using something like MSI Afterburner to enable the on screen display which in game it can show the GPU usage. If you get low frame rate while the GPU usage is low, it would mean you are limited on CPU side rather than graphic card side.

Overclocked your i5 2500K to 4.5GHz or above should allow you to see very noticable increase in frame rate.

recommend doing an atiman full clean then get the latest whql drivers and dont turn on supersampling. Unless you are playing at 1600p in which case upgrade the gpu.

Can't be the CPU really. Not with such poor frame rate.
The game is yet another tragic example of blockbuster (and CPU demanding) title that use only two cores. Here is the official hardware recommendation:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 or better

No recommendation of of multi-cores CPU at all, and read online people didn't really see scaling beyond 2 threads. I am actually quite sick of mmos developers STILL not use 4 cores or more as standard, despite we are in 2012. The only mmorpg which I know would use 4 cores is FFXIV...shame though the game epic failed.

With that said, if the OP is getting 18-24fps at all places in game, then it's probably caused by something else such as graphic driver; but if it is at busy with lots of people, then those frame rate is understandable.
