Guild wars - any good ?

yer enjoyable game not sure on updates now as I stopped playing a while back but there was when i was playing.

not sure about trial but you can pick up cheap now

prophecies is the best chapter , then nightfall and the factions you can play eye of the north expansion if you own any of the 3 chapters

No need. Nuff said as per number of replys.

If you are unwilling to explain, then your words are invalid and meaningless.

It is worth checking out, not sure of any free trials but the game itself is pretty cheap to buy, and as it carries no subscription fee, it's not too bad. They do have regular updates - quite often in fact.

They go in order as follows:

1. Guild Wars (now referred to as Prophecies to seperate it from the rest of the Guild Wars titles (all of which also have some reference to the game's focus in their title).
2. Guild Wars Factions.
3. Guild Wars Nightfall.
4. Guild Wars Eye of the North (this is an expansion, and as such you'll need one of the other three games (which function as both standalones and expansions) to bring a character across.

Ideally you'll want to start from Prophecies, as the story does sort of tie in with the rest of them, but there's no real problem with starting from one of the other games.

Definitely worth a play - you'll only find out whether you like it or not by playing - and as it's been out a little while, it shouldn't be too expensive (and even so, from my opinion and experience, it's worth it).

I didn't really enjoy the game mainly because it was not what i expected it to be. If you want to group quest you need to add someone to your group which can be a pain now.

I also hear Guild Wars 2 is meant to be in production but it most probably wont be untill soemtime next year or 2010.

its not that expensive now either so its worth a try if you have some time to kill. Certainly the best out of the free monthly mmorpg's i have played.

I really enjoy playing Guild Wars. It's the only MMO that I've ever enjoyed playing.

EDIT: The lack of monthly fee = win as well.

Next time don't bother posting if you have nothing useful to say.

OP:

Guild Wars was/is a very good game, and since it doesn't have subs can be played quite cheaply, if you don't like it then you've only lost the £10 purchase price.

It's still fairly well populated and is very noob friendly, however a lot of the longer serving players are waiting for GW2, having done all they can in the original.

Definitely give it a go though, i did and ended up playing for 2 years.

It's dirt cheap now, little risk involved in giving it a go. You don't really need to get Prophecies first these days, as the storyline isn't that intertwined.

It's good fun, there are no fees and you can easily pick it up and play.

Question: I bought GW the original box ages ago when it first came out, but never got round to playing it.

I don't really have the time (and energy) to play a full-blown MMORPG these days, so what is the game like for a single player? I hear most of the game is instanced anyway, but would I be missing out on an awful lot by not joining a guild/partying up etc?

Cheers :)

It's all instanced outside the towns too - all the adventure areas are just you and your group. This isn't a bad thing as such, just be sure you're aware of it and not expecting a full blown mmo.

I only ever played prophecies, and then really as a single player game, but even as such it's still fun. The primary / secondary class thing makes experimenting with different builds a lot of fun.

I went back to Guild Wars after my EVE sub finished and I'm falling in love with it all over again.

Bought GW:EN a few weeks ago and its awesome plus that finished my collection of GW games I now have all four! :)

It's a great game and a bargain, not sure what getting a group is like these days, can you use heroes in prophecies now or do you still need the Nightfall game?

Haven't played in a while :)
