Hi Folks,

I've been playing the 10 hour trial of guildwars to see what it is like and I am in two minds whether to buy the full game. I got to level 8, nearly nine just by doing the quests. Is it like this all the way to level 20? Very similar to WoW? When does the pvp start and what is that like? Also is there any proffesions like WoW like the mining etc. I've played it blind really without looking at the manual so not sure on everything but if it's just going to be more of the same I might not bother getting it as it's getting a bit repetitive now.

its not like traditional MMORPGS like WoW, Usually quests are done with NPCs, and missions with other people, I think most people start pvp at level 20, or you can just make a PVP character that starts at level 20 and just does PVP.

have you just done quests?cos i agree after a while there boring. but if you start doing the missions which have cutscenes etc then guildwars actually has a pretty decent story.
although saying that depends which one your playing, first 1 prophecies is the best and actually interesting, factions is one of the worst games iv ever played, and nightfall is mediocre. eye of the north is good but i think its an expansion so u have to own 1 of the others. id suggest propechies and eye of the north. i think guildwars online sotre has an offer at the minute of buy eye of the north get 50% off another campaign.

you get introduced to pvp after you finish the game really, or you can start before finishing the game but you wont have a lot of the skills unlocked so is pointless really. plenty different types of pvp to do though, good game for that, much better than wow.

Guild wars only really picks up IME at levels 18-20, that's when the plot for each story really starts properly.

Is it still as repetitive as the early levels though? I'm looking for something to play in between rounds of UT3 that's quite easy going and I can pick up and put down easily. I have seen the first game for £6 so I might pick it up and see how I get on. Do the additional games add extra quests that you have to start from scratch to complete or can you carry on with your character from the origional game?

Also, I haven't really done any of the missions, are they like the instances in WoW?

you can use the same character to complete all 3 games.
i dunno what an instance in wow is but a mission is where a group of people (or you and henchman) enter a certain area with set objectives to complete, if you complete the objectives you pass the mission and there will be a cutscene that carries on a story, or you can fail and you will be transported back to town/outpost where you started the mission and you can re-enter.

Is there still a lot of people playing this? I'd prefer to play with other people rather than bots but this game is pretty old now, is there still a lot of lower level people?

Hard to judge anything in GW as a pre-20 character. The game doesn't start until you're 20 really.

Over 2 million regular players so definitely a lot of other people to play with, some of the starter missions in factions and prophecies are hard to find a team but thats why they introduced hero's.

Still a great game, i get back into it every couple of months in between getting obsessed with other games, it's the perfect pick up and play mmo.
