Hey i am a guitar noober! I have a electric guitar and wish to purchase a string to replace the G string. :p . Could someone point me to a good website and what i should be getting? Can you only buy strings as a pack of six?

regards

Larry the winchester rifle.

thankyou

If you've gone on a set long enough to break a string you might as well change the rest anyway - it will sound and feel nicer.

Little tip- on my les paul i thread the string the wrong way through the tailpiece and up over the top of it - reduces the angle of the string on the saddles and greatly reduces breakages. :)

TBH Ernie Balls are the only decent electric ones... check out the endorsees on the back.

I actually use Optima 24 carat gold strings.

Take pride in this occasion, whenever I break my G-String I strut into the guitar shop and confidently announce 'I'd like a G-String, please' :D

On a more serious note, I use 10 Gauge Ernie Balls. Super Slinky Ernie Balls (9 Gauge) are pretty damn popular.

To be honest I'm not fussy about strings, i've gone back and forth between D'Addario and EB tonnes of times and you can't go wrong with either really. Buying them in bulk is definately cheaper too.

Lies...

D'Addario XLs are great and to my ear and fingers last a lot longer than Ernie Balls. They also have a deeper bassier sound without the shrill high end of EBs.

Try out a few brands and see what you like :)

[edit]

10 Gauge are pretty much the standard.

These are the exact strings I've used for 15 years. I've tried em all, and for me they break less often. If you go in a shop just ask for "Ernie Ball Regular 10's, green pack"

Saying that, because I've stuck with them I haven't looked into how other strings are these days. I used to like Fender and D'Addario strings, but they broke more often than EB's for me. Fender especially (used to) have lower quality control, but have a nice tone.

I'm with you on this one, d'addarios are certainly the superior string in terms of sound, playability and lifetime :)

I'm a Dean Markley man, have been since I started playing back in '8*.. no specific reason but I find they don't break on me, have a real nice sound and seem to have good range for the style of music I play :)
