hi guys, i have an acoooooostic guitar and tuner

I want to tune it and learn to play it.

Any advice?

my tuner has sort of a hill with a dot that bounces around when I shout at it, I dont know what it means though.

Also whats best to clean dust from guitars? (the fretboard)

Guitar stings go from E,A,D,G,B,E the first E being the thick string the last E being the thin string, your tuner should have these letters on its display, when you pluck one of the strings the light needs to be at green for it to be in tune.

Work your way through the strings until all the strings are green or tuned,if you have just brought the guitar it should not need much tuning,if you have just re-strung the guitar it will need braking in,a form of tuning until the strings are in tune and then stretching the strings at the fret board with your fingers and then re-tuning.

Clean the fret board with a dam not wet cloth and never use a duster unless you like fluffy yellow bits on your fret board.

Rember if you feel you have gone to far with the tuning, over tuning the string, tune down and start again to avoid the string snaping :)

Tune your thick E string to E with the tuner. Fret the fifth fret on that string and tune the next string up to the same note. Do the same with the 5th and 4th string. Then on the third string fret the fourth fret and tune the 2nd string to sound the same. Then fret the fifth fret on the fifth string and tune the 6th string to sound the same.

If you need any more info PM me.

Tune the fattest string to E then hold down the frets as follows and tune the next string to the same pitch

bottom string - 4th fret
next up - 4th fret
next up - 3rd fret
next up - 3rd fret
next up - 4th fret

Let us know how you get on ;)

Is it just me that thinks you have got that wrong starscream ?

Firstly to clarify for iBot, the thickest string is called the bottom string, and the thinnest the top string, so tuning up from the bottom would mean going from thickest to thinnest.

Tune the fattest string to E, then hold down that E strings 5TH FRET then tune the next string up to the same note. The E strings 5th fret is the note A, and the next string up needs to be tuned to A! (EADGBE). When A has been tuned repeat the process (hold down A's 5th fret (which is the note D) and tune to d string to the note the a string makes. Repeat again. When tuning the B string, you need to hold down the G's strings FOURTH FRET, then revert back to the FIFTH FRET for tuning the high E string.

This method is used by accomplished musicians who can tune by ear. However if your using a tuner to tune the low E string(bottom) in the first place, you may as well use the bloody tuner!

And lastly, guitar is an ace instrument so play it all the time!

i find i cant get any control at A, quite often play in C, and every now again i'll drop the C down to B for some drop tuning :)

I don't play guitar with any degree of ability or finesse but I found that down to A and some fat strings was fine. Rather comfortable too.

Has nobody told you to fully star out your swear words?

Also, has nobody told you that laughing at your own comments is a very, very pathetic thing to do?

I shall tune my guitar however the **** I want to tune my guitar.

Go tell Bob Log III not to downtune his guitar.
