Gumtree trolling ?

Is this a thing ?

I’ve not used gumtree in quite some time but listed a few things a couple of weeks ago and have had numerous people get in touch, haggle a price that is to their liking and then not turn up at the arranged time of collection and then never respond afterwards.

Now I expect this to happen now and then but it’s happened 5 times in two weeks with 5 different people and after numerous lengthy text message exchanges.

I expect time wasters who ask if you’ll accept a pack of haribo for a MacBook Pro or whatever but this just seems weird…especially as I’m listing very niche high end music studio equipment that the average pleb wouldn’t ever search for.

What is in it for these people to go to all this effort if it is indeed trolling ?

Gumtree is no different to Facebook Marketplace.

Filled with window-shoppers, time wasters, stolen goods and people trying to sell crap as if it were gold.

Personally I would never even consider trying to sell "niche, high end music studio equipment" (which would presumably be quite expensive) on Gumtree or FB Marketplace.
