As title really!

Heading there soon so thought i'd ask OCUK for suggestions.

Looking some sort of balcony or bar/pub with a view. Any thoughts? Food not too important, perhaps nibbles.

There is an entire ground and balcony level with eating places where you can enjoy food and drink with a great view. Rock up and take your pick they all offer the same view.

I don't think you'll get a 'sea' view from Gunwharf anywhere, you can get a harbour view though.

IIRC All Bar One is reasonable and has a nice-ish balcony view - been a couple of years since I was there.

Anywhere specific you could recommend? Sounds good though!

TBH they are your typical mainstream restaurants, think Bella Italia, Zizzi, pizza express etc. All bar one / slug and lettuce are the bars. Walk round to old Portsmouth for better views, Still and West pub sits right at the harbour entrance.

If specifically bars then:
Slug & Lettuce - Directly above the marina section, the sun sets over Gosport which you will have a front row seat as that area overlooks the Solent and Gosport.
Eden (formerly Tiger Tiger) - Offers the same views as Slug, located directly opposite. Under new management and recently renovated which looks really nice.
All Bar One - Next door to Eden, same as above.

The rest are all restaurants with balcony views. The far end by Spinnaker is nice too with a direct view up of the tower with (now fully glass) bannister views of the Solent. In this area you have Cosy Club and Hubbox which I highly recommend as the food and service is great. Here's what that area looks like:

Still & West and Spice Island are nice but they are almost always packed which isn't nice and the seating and top level views from Gunwharf are nicer really. Op can always drink/eat at Gunwharf, then walk around Old Portsmouth which is a 10-15 min walk away.

Hehe. Nice pub though, visited regularly pre covid.

Just been trying to remember when we had a "big" family get-together there sometime in the last decade during a summer, not that it's that far from us, food was decent and views were lovely.

Regularly walk at hill head up to Warsash myself and had a pint on the way back in the pre covid days. Rode past on my bike last week and they seem to have an outdoor bar now.

Slighty off topic but as someone who hasn't lived in the UK since 2009 I'm astonished All Bar One is still a thing. I'm getting horrible late 90's flashbacks.

Anyway, carry on :D
