well im starting this to see if anyone feels my pain or wether its jsut time i got out into the "real world"

my rig which is a slightly outdated 144, 7800gt 2gb gskill and a 20" dell tft used to be somehing i could brag about back in the day but now after i ariving at college today i was gutted to find that all the old pcs have been replaced by some new beasts.

so thinking nothing of i went over to check them out only to find that under the hood lies conroe 6600's, 2gb ram and 7900gt's.

on top of all of this they've got some 19" widescreen samsungs.

shoudl i feel gutted or jsut upgrade my rig come G80 so i can feel good about myself again.

also i might try getting cs set up on those, with a t3 and all :D

Don't upgrade unless you need to, try not to give in to temptation. ;)

I know what you mean though. Anyone who goes out and buys a half decent dell tomorrow will get a faster system than me :(

Have to keep reminding myself that the jump forward caused by core 2 is a good thing for the industry and good for the customer, lower prices and higher performance etc. Just means i loose out because i bought my system just before a big jump in technology and lots of pricedrops...

A Christmas upgrade is looking mighty tempting though...

Ive been thinking that. depressing aint it

LOL my university has nvidia 4 series GPU'S and amd anthlon xp cpu's ;) so your rig is significantly better than these. PS why would your college have such good PC's???

Might be time to sell your old stuff tbh. Trouble is if you wait it out it'll just decrease in value.

what do you do at college, why on earth have they got machines that powerful.
i can understand the ram and cpu... but the graphics card WTF ?

We have similar Dells (smaller screens) and they're used for the "games class" that our college has.

Must not be doing much - they got their backsides handed to them everytime we play COD on LAN. :)

yea me and my mate were tempted too, after all, being year 2, were allowed to work in the classes after time and theres no cameras.

I was at a loss as to why they were so powerfull, the old machines were p4 1.8 512 ram and onboard graphics,

however due to the recent installation on 3d max and photoshop cs2 on the machines they all bee upgraded.

by the way the course is E-media , its a btec at NCN Adams in Nottingham if anyones interested

I've got 7 new HP Desktops sitting next to me that I need to install this afternoon at work.

Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz
512MB DDR2
Onboard gfx

I've only got a lowly P4 2.8Ghz, I want dual core :(

Nice for the people getting the upgrade, they are running 2Ghz Celerons with 128MB Ram, lol!

i used to go to uni at nottingham trent, the year i left they introduced a games development module using the half life 2 SDK, all the pcs in a couple of labs were upgraded to beasts (well relative for a uni) with brand new 6800GTs, and a cafe steam licence :( this happens just as i leave and ive been using their rubbish p4 1.8ghz machines with onboard video to play space invaders on the net to while away lab time
