OK with my previous HD3850 256mb i got 10080 and thought with my new 8800GTS 512mb which is also overclocked would have got atleast 12K. I am using 175.16 drivers. Any ideas why its such a small jump?

Results from the HD3850 256

3DMark Score 10080 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 4318
SM 3.0 Score 4829
CPU Score 2413

Results from the 8800GTS 512mb

try some games? that gts is a good bit faster than your old card so i would try whacking up the details and see how you get on. :)

How did you get such a nice score with a 3850, thats the reason its not much of an increase. 3ghz conroe seems fast enough to me

new
SM 2.0 Score 4578
SM 3.0 Score 5363
9941

vs

old
SM 2.0 Score 4318
SM 3.0 Score 4829

9% increase

Do the crysis benchmark

I get 11.5k with 2900xt and old 3850 was 9481 marks

Just in case you forgot, put all the driver quality settings to performance

You should be getting much higher SM2/3 scores with a G92 GTS - I get around 6K each with an 8800GT overclocked a bit.

Make sure you have AA and AF in the driver and tab set to performance.

You should be seeing a higher score than the 3850...

Ok i installed the new 175.70 drivers, cranked the card to 800/2000/1000, fan at 75%. I set the 3d settings to performance in nvidia control panel, set AA/AF to performance and i got just over 11K, still hoped id get more.

Your only running a 3ghz overclock remember and a cpu with only 1mb cache per core.

I got 17,554 with a Q6600 @ 4ghz and a gts @ 830/2200

yea 3dmark06 is very dependant on the cpu tbh which is bs when most games arent.

Try the crysis benchmark, etc if you want to measure how good the gfx is in comparison

As I've said before, 3dmark is only a good test of how a machine will play games when it first launches. After 6 months or so it just becomes very cpu bound in a way most games dont.

All taken in, I realise it's a good card and there is a decent improvement over my HD3850. I was just hoping to get a decent gain on 3dmark06, not that it realy matters :)
