I built this damm thing and now i am realising the motherboard is complete dog. I think when i check in devices HPET is going to be listed.

UD4H-Z87X is the model number it has everything i wanted and expected and i checked before if Gigabyte had HPET but at the time it was just launching from Z77. On My Z77 motherboard anything but HPET disabled cost me around 50us in latency. Now im finding out thanks to google ALL Z87/Z97 Gigabyte boards leave it on by default. :(

Why would any gamer now buy Gigabyte?

Hi i downloaded the latest F10b beta from the official site mate but i still cannot locate the option for HPET in the bios. I have it listed under device manager as well which indicates on?

Is this going to be in the final version of F10 ? Or is the version you linked me final? I am excited to see there will finally be a toggle though so i can get back to my old settings of HPET off. If you can persist with getting this toggle in F10 final or F11 soon then i will be finally happy with my purchase. When i google HPET and Gigabyte too i get a lot of hits with others who are urgently seeking this fix.

Thanks!

Hi
Please download & use F10 bios provided in the link above, not the F10b bios from our website.

Hi sorry to revive this old thread but are you ever going to make F11 or even F10 for that matter on the offical website? Also i am still incredibly dissapointed in the bios and lack of updates since F10. Everytime i enter the bios i keep getting reverted out of classic mode. Not only this but certain options like HPET can only be disabled and only show in classic mode? And options like USB 3.0 only show in non classic mode?

Hi sorry for this, But there is a thread here also asking for this for Z97 could you clarify why you removed HPET for Z97 also? I have done tests and for me HPET off with your bios F10 halves system latency and is incredibly useful. How come Z97 has double the latency under latencymon in windows 8.1? And why have you removed this option considering it is a windows function and not motherboard?

This seems like the new trend by vendors because HPET can in some circumstances be better. But for me, And for most other people on here who have done tests there is a clear winner which is HPET off. And to simply find vendors removing it is just plain silly. Please give everyone the option is choosing if they want HPET.

Thanks.

Sigh, Your website is such a hassle i cannot ask about Z97 i had to fill in the part numbers for my card, memory, bios i had to use my Z87 because how would i find my part numbers for Z97 which i am asking about for HPET? Not only that but cap sensitive capatcha style codes which in total with the above took me about 15-20 minutes to get a very simple answer that could have taken one minute to copy paste to this forum.

The answer should be available here, Without going through such hassle because i cannot even ask the question for Z97, As your form would require me to own one first, have the serial numbers AND bios. The solution is very simple, And not complicated at all just please tell your bios engineer to add in the code to toggle High precison event timer on and off in all future motherboards, And make sure it gets added to Z97 i do not care which board as i need to buy one just pick any Z97 and make a bios. Thanks and hopefully this will get resolved in future too.

To further edit this i have done testing which i am still doing despite it being 2am and i will be adding screenshots to show that unless i disable in the bios HPET the GPU graph in Battlefield 4 spikes quite bad and i get error messages in Latencymon. When i disable it i have a graph that is so flat and perfect and i go from 25us idle to only 2 or 5us. I will go through the hassle of proving with screenshots that this option is ESSENTIAL with Windows 8.1 for gaming.

Is the option present on the z97x-ud5h bk?

According to thier support NO, You must personally email and request a special bios for HPET option, Its stupid i did some tests and while games and graphs seem the same it "feels smoother" but the difference is easily there under Latencymon latest win 8.1.

I told them that HPET is a redundant timer used for servers or cpus with different clock speeds. The new timer is called TSC and is used by default in windows 8.1 and is faster, more reliable than HPET. So really all these motherboard makers are making a stupid decision.

It cant be a gaming motherboard or a consumer board is HPET is in device manager, It would be a server board. :(

IIRC I found having HPET off caused some compatibility issues with some software though that was Windows 7 not tried it with 8.

Still a useful option to have but you'll find more boards are lacking the option than have the option from my experience.

If you can get a bios that's good enough for me. I made the mistake of getting my first asus board last time - their UK support is awful compared to gigabyte so I want to move back to the good side!

Yup older OS below windows 8 or 8.x should take caution. But new OS like windows 8.1 use TSC for sure and it is faster in every way apart from RAW fps much better latency almost 50% less in Latencymon so it aint placebo. Different computers also work different i always get Nvidia not liking HPET on, Latencymon said i could have system errors and a red warning. HPET and bam warnings gone max us for Nvidia 40us!

Also Mike email gigabyte support i guess what you say is true that the others are worse... Asus will ask what is HPET is so i will not be buying anymore Asus boards. But i still think gigabyte should add in the option on all bios and disable by default because going forwards were going to be using TSC so its a worthless option that only does damage for future systems.

It seems to change the timer also, From 3.4mhz to 3.5mhz and HPET on in both is 14mhz so it is screwing with windows timers. The correct setting for best performance is TSC 3.4mhz.

Also Gigaman what is with your online support? Your reps are clearly trying to fob me off with claims HPET is off by default. :/

They claim HPET is disabled by default, Yet it shows under device manager until i had the special bios to disable. Then by magic it not only goes away from device manager, But lowers all my system latency by 50%? I am not happy to be honest as they also denied HPET only shows under classic mode/power management but now they claim HPET is disabled all the time.

On my Z87 HPET has never been shown in anything but classic, And it has always been enabled by default and is on all Z87 and Z97 lol...

cant you just right click in device manager and click disable?

Already is, I'm looking for the hardware side, not the software side.

HPET hardware side causes issues with my CFX setup.

HPET Option is found in many other manufacturer boards but not newer Gigabytes.

You may try the latest bios F10 which should have this option included. It's available here.

Giga-man is there any way you could possibly trust message me and help me out, I think there may be something wrong with my Gigabyte Motherboard, as the USB devices keep disconnection and reconnecting...

Sorry for Hijacking your thread just saw him here :)
