If Courtenay will give that to you in writing, I'd be wanting a new clutch from Vauxhall under warranty; you think you're the only person who's driven a remapped VXR Vectra hard?

You should seriously consider a proven uprated clutch too or going back to the standard map. It's one or the other tbh coz next time she might just walk out.

Running costs are nothing and clutch could have been worn anyway but if that's the blue VXR I think it is ;) it was more than likely your driving style that caused it along with the tyre tread left on the tarmac of the hungry horse car park :p

You think if you drove a different car with any less erm... enthusiasm it would fair any better?

Fix the bloody clutch and tell her to shut up. :D

16", mines a classic, I change the oil once a year myself then take it to a local garage once a year for a full service which costs me approx £250 and thats all I do servicing wise. It gets its six month oil change every year and brake pads can be done by myself, it dosent take very long. Nothing has gone wrong with it during the 4 years I have owned apart from my drivers side window came off its runners. Its also £180 tax a year too. It dosent have to cost the earth to own one and the main cost is fuel of course, though it wouldnt be any worse than his VXR.

I thought about finding a nice cheap classic.

Then i came across this

Vectra will get me about 10k, so that leaves 6k in change for running costs ? and then i half my tax and tyre costs as well.

So im saving £400 a year in tyres and tax, and got 6k in the bank to pay for any extra bills the subaru might throw up.

No because whilst the car may be cheaper to buy, her indoors will just allocate the saved cash to something else, so the money you've got back from the sale of the Vectra won't be used to run the IMpreza, the running cost of the Impreza will be higher than your current car (fuel costs), when the turbo goes pop, engine rebuild?

If you really want to save money you need to stop looking at performance cars.
 
Hahahahaha you do not want to buy an Impreza if your other half wants to save cash.

Decent rubber for the Impreza is gonna cost the same as your Vectra.
 
The only car I could settle for when downgrading the EP3 was my MX5, everything else would cost a fortune due to age and complexity. Just a shame it's much slower than I'm used to :(
 
He will save money on tyres though as you can't go screeching out of car parks in an impreza in clouds of smoke like he could in the VXR. :D

But for god sake if you do get one, leave it alone, the more you modify it, the less reliable they become ;)

Rubbish. If he wants to save money he needs to use his brain (sober brain). The only unreasonable costs he's incurred are through his own idiocy. £250 on a map that's cost him a further £300(?) in a new clutch.

I dont believe that it is even necessarily the map which has caused this. It sounds like clutch abuse given the fact that others do not experience the same issues. Power should be fed carefully and progressively through a clutch, not dumped through it as i believe the case may be here.

Although I only came back to also mention.
You'll be seriously shocked by the petrol consumption of the Impreza if you do get one, because I know you wont be able to drive it steady :D
 
Ive discussed with the mrs, i can have a car that costs about the same to run, with the proviso that its cheaper so i can bank the change to pay for all the bills the car may throw up.

We've agreed that we'll just give the money to another member of the family, and then ask for it as and when we need it so it doesnt get spent. She has agreed to the ST220 which will coast broadly the same, but will save £200 on tax, and about £30 per tyre. But that combined with 5k in the bank to pay for running costs (with some burgled for a new couch) means shes a happy bunny, and ive got something more interesting than a 2.0 Mondeo.
