Well after a three week wait my 27" iMac was due to be shipped today and I was looking forward to playing with my new toy Wednesday. But after checking my order status online I find out it has been delayed for another 2.5 weeks with no notice or reasons why.

Damm it :(

There was an article on Ars this week about Apple acknowledging some issues with the 27" screens, which seem to be pushing back orders. So maybe it will be a good thing because you'll get a screen that is going to work. :)

But at least you know that you won't get sent one that 'Might' work ok!

According to several articles online, Apple stopped production on the 27" iMacs a few weeks ago amid ongoing complaints with the display.

This caused the supply levels to drop back to "2-4 weeks". They've clearly looked in to the problem more aggressively, and have since ramped up production to drop the delivery estimates.

On the back of this they've just issued a new firmware update for the 27" iMac, so they must have confidence that they've sorted it.

I'd avoid buying from a store that carries large stocks of Apple computers, so if anything you'd be "safer" ordering from Apple direct, as they'll come from the production plants in Shanghai (assuming you order a BTO).

You'll notice the first complaints broke on December 14th 2009, so it's not a new issue.
