Few articles on the rags today about Guus Hiddink wanting the Liverpool job, since it looks like Rafa is out on his ear if he doesn't get in the top four.

What do peeps think about dem apples?

Hiddink only said he'd like to manage in England again one day and all of a sudden the Daily Fail, without any sources or quotes, claim he wants the Liverpool job? Gutter journalism in a gutter paper for gutter readers.

Doubt he'd go to Liverpool, I was sure his intentions were to finish the Russia job then retire? Why would a man in the latter stages of his career (maybe his final job?) want to enter that **** storm?

This.

It's also pretty much how English journalism works.

Anyone see the Messi thing that the English journo's ran with? :D

The only quote in that article was:

Hiddink said: ‘I have to speak to the federation president before making any decision on my future, but it is true that I would like to coach in England again. After all the support I’ve received from Roman Abramovich I owe it to them to discuss anything with them first.’

Only in a paper written for the intellectually challenged could that quote produce the following headline:

Guus Hiddink closes in on embattled Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez as former Chelsea coach admits he would jump at Kop job

God only knows what sort of headline they'd have if Benitez was black

We could be slightly fair to them and realise, that honestly, its the only job you automatically assume is available in the summer at a top 6-8 club. What clubs might have new managers come the summer, Liverpool, West Ham, Stoke possibly, can't see many other options. Now while Liverpool are a bit poo at the moment, could we agree they are the highest profile club probably wanting a new manager come the summer. With Guss mentioning the need to talk it over with his friend Abramovich to check its ok with him, indicates he doesn't think the Chelsea job is opening up.

So honestly, what job do you think he might be thinking about taking should it open up? Do people really think Fergie will either retire or be fired after this season, or Wenger, O'neill, Redknapp(assuming he doesn't end up in jail), Moyes, Hodgeson.

Yes I agree the papers are stating without complete proof he wants the Liverpool job, but exactly which job in the premier league do you all think he's contemplating taking if he was asked?

I can understand it when a player says they'd like to play in England and papers jump on it and link them with any club with £3 to spend, but in this specific situation, its hard to see what other job he's talking about.

ANyway, what Liverpool need is someone that can come in, sell Gerrard and Torres, get the majority of that money to spend on a bunch of cheap players and come up with some sub 10million gems. They need someone to be getting a Vermaelen, RVP, Rosicky, Ramsey, Cesc priced players in who can actually play, rather than someone to come in and sell a couple big players and buy a couple of 20million players, even if great, won't help the squad enough.

Hmm, Hodgeson, sell almost the entire current squad and bring in a ridiculous amount of new players, and turn the club around completely, basically thats what they need. A club in big debt who will unlikely fund much in the way of new players but might, as so often happens, let a new manager have a decent kitty, especially if they got a huge sum for selling Gerrard and Torres. those 2 players, especially when so injury prone, are simply not enough to keep the club competitive, 8 10mil players will do more for Liverpool than 2 40mil players can do.

You're assuming he wants to come back to England this season or next.

Just quoting this for my own amusement :o

You're assuming he's not talking about this season or the next. Considering he's been saying for a while now he expects to leave his job and has mentioned working after the World Cup it makes more sense he's talking about sooner rather than later.

I haven't assumed anything. He's been heavily linked with the Juventus job in recent weeks so there's no reason to assume his next job will even be in England just that he'd like to manage in England again one day.

Would be a good option, I think it may be best to wait until after the World Cup before appointing a new manager though, should be some top coaches available then after their dismal failures in South Africa.
