guys, I installed my new Cooler Master Nepton 240 AIO coller, but I FORGOT to add the CPU THERMAL PASTE!!

Im 10 mins into installing windows 7

What do I do?

Cancel the installation, open the cooler apply PU thermal paste?

Install windows and then apply thermal paste afterwards?

Or shall I just cancel applying the CPU thermal paste and hope for the best?

Will be fine

hah?

it will be ok?

the x99 cooler fix on the cpu is quite easy to open, no need to dissemble the mobo ect all I need to do is open 4 screws and off comes the top of the pump apply paste and then screw on

but in you tubevids some ppl don't bother with the paste...

guys lastly

the cpu pump connection, I connected it to the CPU fan header

the 2 fans I connected to the CPU OPT header

Is that the right way round? as online there are conflicting info where ppl say vice versa....

which is the correct way?

ps I went into the bios and selected full speed on the CPU fan header so the pump is at full speed all the time, I also went full speed on the 2 fans that are connected with the pump, but it was spinning so fast and quite loud I went back to normal

so the cpu cooler fans are in normal speed and the pump at full speed, that's ok?

If it didn't have paste already applied, you need to put some on.

ASAP.

The review on Guru3D suggests it doesn't have pre-applied paste.

no, it didn't have any, im just waiting for windows to fish updating, then I will apply,

hopefully the cpu wont be too hot...

so with regards to connecting the all in one cooler pump to the cpu fan header and the twin fans to the cpu opt header, that is correct?

What the fan headers do depends on your settings in the BIOS as the output of the fan headers are usually set to temperature controlled and their output can be voltage or PWM regulated.

You're brave to keep running without thermal paste, I personally wouldn't.

thermal paste applied, that's why I love the x99 boards, no need to dismantle and take out the mobo, just quickly undone 4 screws, picked up the aio cooler plate, squirted a pea size amount of paste, re-applied the plate + 4 screws, done in 4 mins!!

I don't know what pwm is

my pump is connected to the cpu fan header and the 2 fans are connected to the cpu opt header...

is that cool or where do I connect the pump and fans to?

on my mobo I have a 4 pin heads, stated as CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT

where shall I connect the pump to?

Connect the fans to CPU / Pump to CPU_OPT

In bios set our fan control to auto or whatever it says, just don't have it on manual full.

PWM controls your fan speed dependant upon cpu temp which will be monitored by the motherboard. Most motherboards include software you can install to change fan profiles from the desktop. Have a play around with that and settle on what you want, performance or less noise.

Just FYI

PWM means pulse width modulation. PWM is when you pulse a DC voltage off and on. The pulses are going so fast that they do not turn the fan off and on. All the fan sees is the "average voltage". You can tell a PWM fan from standard one as it has four pins instead of three.

oh ok thank you for the much needed advice, i had it theother way round, so now i will connect the pump to the cpu opt and fans to cpu

Let me know how you get on, should be a bit quieter as well. But if you get to a point where the fan "hunts" and it annoys you, then you can set a manual profile to match your clocks and temps comfortably.

^ I think the OP has already added paste anyway.

Also, the pump should be left at full speed, but the fans can be set as you desire.
