Hey Guys,

So I'm just looking for some advice please, i think my GPU is dying and before i go and order a new one and spend £250-£300 i just want to run by you guys whats going on as i don't want to buy a new GPU and it doesn't need replacing or it's the Mobo or PSU etc.

Here is my spec, i built this PC (My first build) back in Feb 2011

i5 2500K @ 4.2 Ghz
MSI P67A-GD65
G-Skill Ripjaw 8GB Ram
WD 1TB Caviar Black HDD
EVGA GTX 570 SC (latest driver 344.75)
Corsair HX 650W PSU

I have used this PC since i built it and have never had any issues.
So tonight im playing a bit of SWTOR and all of a sudden my screen gos black and my PC reboots i think "that's strange never had that before"

So i load SWTOR back up and upon loading back in with in a few seconds the screen freezes then goes black, then i get green blobs all over my screen then i get a blue screen saying that my PC has to turn off to prevent it from being damaged.

I just want to let you know that i use EVGA Precision and i know for fact this is not a overheating issue this card has not seen past 75 degrees.

This PC is opened and dusted out on average every 3 months so i know its not a dust issue.

Things i have tried.......

First thing i did was try another game and it did exactly the same thing blue screen then reboot a few seconds after loading into the game.

I then took off the side of the case and checked all connections to the GPU check GPU fan was spinning all ok. i also check and felt the PSU and this was not hot or there was no dust build up etc.

I then decided to run EVGA OC scanner im not sure if people still use it but it came as free software with my GPU so i thought id run a test and it instantly failed and i got "The display driver has failed and recovered" windows message, i thought id try once more and again it instantly failed and Blue screened me again.

I ran Windows memory check (No issues)

I thought id try reinstalling the drivers again, so i uninstalled them booted in to safe mode, run Driver sweeper and done a clean install.

Upon loading up a game same thing, freeze, black screen then green blobs all over it followed by blue screen saying my computer is going to shut down.

upon reloading i have started to get green blobs on my desktop now all over the screen and then another crash, so i booted back into safe mode and uninstalled all Nvidia drivers etc.

I have now booted back into windows with the VGA adapter for my display (800 x 600 resolution) and it's been an hour now just browsing the web and i have had no crashes.

So what do you think guys?, as i said im just looking for advice, if it is the GPU it's not a biggie because i was going to upgrade it to a 970 at some point but to be honest my 570 has always run the games i play to a high enough standard for me, im also going to get a SSD for Christmas thats something im looking forward to getting as boot times take ages now.

Sorry for the wall of text but i just thought id give as much info as possible so you guys can get an idea of whats happening and what i have done.

Any advice is welcome thank you.

How about taking it out and running the PC off the Integrated Graphics?

also try it in a different PCIe slot.

AFAIK sandy doesn't have an iGPU.

Got any spare cards laying around you could try? even if its just a basic card, it could help to determine the cause.

Hey Dockie, thanks for the reply,

Unfortunately I don't have one or know anyone local enough to borrow one.
You thinking it could be something else?

If you have a spare hdd i would do a clean install on it and just install the nvidia drivers latest ones for a 570 and try that, it might be a waste of an hour but that would rules out precision x or software faults. If it dont work then just plug your other hdd back in and you lost nothing.

Hi Ian thanks for the suggestion I will try that later.

Just a general update.

I have updated my Motherboard BIOS and drivers etc then
I tried putting the GPU in another PCIe slot and it's doing exactly the same thing in this slot as well.
