Seems the GW2 Thread has been closed and added to the Archives.

Started playing this yesterday. Im a bit comfused.

In GW1 you would go and find people who would give you quests and there was also the main story line quests.

In GW2, there dont seem to be any quests to do, just events in the world which you can do when you are in the area.

There are story line missions but they are not clear. Seems you have to reach a certain level to trigger story line missions.

So I just run around doing random stuff to level my charecter to reach a high enough level to trigger a story quest?

Doesnt sound right to me!

That's pretty much it - originally you could follow the storyline quest right from the start, but that was deemed too confusing and overwhelming for mere mortals, so now it's level-gated, you get it doled out gradually as you level.

There are no general quest givers, you wander around and find stuff that needs doing. The yellow hearts on the map are the quest reward givers. The whole newbie experience was overhauled about a month ago, and to be honest it really didn't need it :(

Yeah they pretty much messed up GW2 with the latest game features update.
Supposed to be easier for new players to get used the so called learning curve. And also feel more rewarding for levelling.
Basically its done the complete opposite. Iv played GW2 from day 1 but this particular update did it for me i wiped my hands with this game months ago now.
Such a shame really so close to being an immense mmo aswell.

Yep. I feel like they have made it even more confusing for new players.

How is a new player to know that the story line quests trigger when they reach a certain level?

Felt like I was going around with no aim, until some one told me I needed to be level 10 to trigger the story line mission.

I would much rather have a main quest line to follow and find more quests along the way. At least then I know when I was moving forward and when I was just doing aimless things.

I've been playing since day one, and the only thing the Feature Pack is good for is that little content direction system arrow. It's allowing me to finally get started on my 'Been There Done That' title for World completion that I kept putting off.

has the level capped storyline thing stopped black lion key farming? that was about the only thing i was doing towards the end of my time playing gw2 lol

Yeah, pretty much worshipped GW1 and would go back always if it were active.

GW2 is a lot less social imo

100% this, I still cant believe the many incorrect decisions they made in building GW2.

It was basically a giant **** you to all the fans of the first one that had supported them for so many years, disappointing doesn't even come close.

Agreed. I really, really enjoyed GW1. I've played GW1 since launch right up until GW2 came out, on pretty much one PVE character (Monk). I would always come back to it to play with friends. This never happened in GW2. Too anarchic, no structure to the combat, a giant whirlind zerg, no real sense of involvement, community and progression. Gave up after 3 months.

They went all 'break the mold', without even thinking that players like the MMO mold. Tank, Heals, DPS, quests. Suited me just fine. I even like the instanced mechanics (being a monk, always found a job).

Not enjoying this at all.

Feel like a headless chicken, with no sense of purpose. I have no quests to do and I am currently running around 'seemingly' aimlessly waiting for me to hit the magic level to trigger the next story event.

Not fun.

With this whole 'gated' level dependant story mechanic, it's as if they are forcing you to grind to certain levels before you can progress.

I dont see why thats a good mechanic.

I enjoyed GW2, liked just roaming around the zones and getting 100% on them. Though the new feature pack did frack up the lower level content imo, not sure what was so hard before?

If you really wanna stick at it. Id suggest you get exploring. Vist every possible start world location. Vist your home instance whichever that may be. Get all the vistas, poi's not sure you can see skillpoints anymore though. Do dynamic missions along the way. Thats really the only purpose you have from start now.
I feel for you. If i could pluck up the patience to go back id say i come help you out but the sheer grind of it all puts me off now. After 6mths of world boss trains it gets really really crappy. And starting again i could just not cope with.
Good luck to you. Those storyline missions do get good late on aswell. Group up if you can. It helps a lot.
