i can't overclock my system (cpu\fsb) with my 7950gx2. i mean not even 1 mhz!!
i've had my system stable at more than 3.6ghz for weeks with my old 7800gt but once the gx2 goes in, it's stock or nothing.
it's stranger than that though. if i change the pci-e frequency from auto to 100mhz it still crashes even though auto will be running at 100mhz anyway. any change from auto results in a non booting pc!!

the strange part is that when i put my 7800gt back in it's fine. i can overclock all i like.

i know the card is fine as a) it works and b) it will sit in my mates overclocked pc (more or less the same spec as mine) no trouble.
i obviously haven't damaged anything during overclocking as it's fine with a 7800gt in.

i'm out of ideas, you guys got any?

e6600 conroe
gigabyte ds3 (bios F6)
2gig geil pc6400
620w psu
leadtek 7950gx2

The only thing I can suggest is that your power supply isn't good enough?

With a hefty overclock and the GX2, I would imagine the power requirements are quite high. What other bits do you have in your computer?

hes got a 620w psu thts no probs the GX2 actualy uses less power thn the X1900XTX i beleve, the only thing i can think of is bios update

You'd have to be a bit more specific than just a 620w psu for me, what make is it?

1 manufacturers 620w can be very different from anothers :p

actualy yeh i dint think of tht what make lol hopefully not qtec or even worse generic

psu is a corsair 620 so no generic rubbish.
as far as the bios goes, i've gone from F4 to F5 and now F6, but it doesn't help the situation.

i know others on here will have the same combination of motherboard\memory\cpu\gfx who don't have a problem. it's really peeing me off.

yep.

i find that i can alter some settings, such as memory divider\timings and voltages but changing the fsb or pci-e frequency in the slightest causes a problem.

another development.
using easytune 5 i can push things slightly, maybe up to 3ghz but not to the same level i was running before the gx2.

why would i be able to adjust the fsb in windows but not from the bios???

still sounds like a power thing to me, you can always push further in windows because the whole boot cycle thing is disproportionately intensive. Tried a different pci-e lead?

The GPUs used on the 7950GX2 are pretty efficient afaik, because they are actually the notebook variants of the 7900 graphic chipsets. Therefore their power requirements are relatively modest, as is their TDP.

What method are you using to overclock the card in Windows?
