Hi

I have an msi gx660R-474uk laptop and recently tried to upgrade the memory.

I bought 8gb (2x4gb) of Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz

It currently has 6gb 1333mhz memory

I thought the memory would just clock down to the required speed

When I installed the ram it immediately blue screened, I tried changing some of the memory settings in the bios (I have the modded/unlocked bios) but no luck.

I managed to get it to recognise the memory in bios but only by using one of the old sticks with one of the new sticks as well. Im not sure if this would have booted into windows as all the ram changes seemed to have broken windows and again it just blue screened.

luckily it was a fresh install which I have now reinstalled

anyone else had any issues installing ram in this laptop?

could it be it just isn't compatible with that memory speed?

thanks guys

the 1600mhz ram should default to 1066mhz usually till you manually set the correct speed in the bios

are you running latest bios version for the laptop? it could simply be incompatible or favour 2gb modules idk,or poor laptop bios support for the vengeance ram

8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V
DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V •
upgrade for MSI (Micro Star) GX660R system.

That's from the Crucial memory finder.

If you go to http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/memory-finder they don't list your model which I assume means the Corsair Vengeance RAM is not compatible.

Thanks guys,
Finally got around to looking at this and the gx660r is not listed on the corsair website as being compatible :(

anyone need any notebook ddr3 vengeance 1600mhz memory? lol

I'll get that kit from crucial, should have known that would have been the easiest option.

thanks again
