signed up to a gym back in October, for the past few months I haven't been able to go due to work, starting before gym opens and often working for 12+ hours a day making it impossible to go to the gym after work.

Just had an email from them saying they have changed names, as my contract was with the previous company is it now void or does it still stand until its expiration in October.

ours is a a council property and was transferred from managment company 'everyone active' to 'better leisure' and yearly contract just continued.
.... need to negotiate price when you renew though ... it is like sky tv - lol
I would demand they suspend your contract if you cannot use it for a while.

5.16. We will consider suspending Your Membership for non-medical reasons. You must apply in writing at Your local facility. Memberships may at Our absolute discretion be suspended for a maximum of 3 months* within a 1 year period commencing from the Membership start date. Eligibility for suspension is restricted and supporting documentation will be required. Please ask a Member of staff for further details. A nominal ‘suspension fee’ will be charged each month via direct debit for non-medical suspension

*Dependent on reason

You'll be lucky if they deem "too busy with work" to be a good enough reason to let you suspend it. That clause is so vague it's almost worthless.
