Gym Etiquette

I've been going to the gym on and off for the last 20 years or so & I haven't really encountered the situation I'm about to describe & I'm guessing it's possibly a geographically related thing.

Anyway, I have my fixed routine I do each session, bench presses, lat pull downs, some free weights etc mostly 3 sets of 10 - 15 reps of each.
After each set I take a 30 second breather before starting again & it is at this point that occasionally I will get a request to circulate with somebody else so they can jump on while I'm having my breather.

There are a couple of issues here for me;

1) They are much younger and fitter than me & I feel I have to adapt to their rhythm.
2) There are often people on the kit I want to use - I personally would never ask the same of them preferring instead to use a different bit of apparatus until the other one becomes available. Don't see why they can't do the same - unless the gym is really busy & then I guess it's different.

Thoughts?
 
You can politely decline, explaining that you'd rather not as it throws you off your focus, and that you'll be done soon.

These are mad. The things you come up with, for what I can only assume is attention seeking giggles, are quite ‘odd’ - to put it kindly.
 
That specific power lifter is wonderful.
he sticks to lifts his small compact body gives him an advantage with though compared to taller guys who need more supporting muscles due to centre of mavity and them holding the weight further extended from their body.

its harder to train supporting muscles so if you rely on them less it's a lot easier.

Lets be kind here given how strong he is:


Dude is strong as **** and proves mass does not equate to strength, height is largely irrelevant outside of extremes. Some lifts actually benefit shorter males, but if you want to win "worlds strongest man" you need to be 6'3 +.

I did t really have this happen when I used to go, but if it did I'd just say I've got another set or w/e. As long as people are t looking at their phones, if someone is on their phone and not lifting or preparing for the next set then they need to get up

Anatoly is very strong for his weight, which is why his videos look funny. He doesn't have peak strength of world strongest men types though - for example the deadlift world record is around 500kg and Anatoly's best is 250kg. But the guy who holds the record weighs 200kg and Anatoly is 75kg

Eddie Hall was the first person to nail 500kg deadlift and it almost killed him, there's been some questionable attempts from Hathfor since. Most prior to Eddie didn't believe 500kg was even possible. There's also a lot of people who slowly edged the weight by a kg or or few but Eddie pulled off a 35kg improvement which was unheard of in terms of improvement.

That's a 6'3 dude deadlifting vs a the 6'9 Hathfor.

I'd also like to point out that he has an extremely good relationship with utter GOAT's such as Brian Shaw who barely gives the time of day to Hathfor.
