[H]Fall 2012 GPU and Driver Comparison Roundup

In regards to BF3:

'On the top end, the HD 7970 outperformed the GTX 680 by a 16.9% margin', can't believe [H] printed that...

...oh wait a minute...

'even though there was no noticeable difference in game play performance'

You couldn't make it up [H]!

;)

Couldnt agree more and what was sad is I saw a comment like that coming before even reading the review so I skimmed down the page looking for one... took about 4 seconds . Always a truly biassed site this.

With that said I dont get why people are boohoohooing about the 680 maybe or maybe not being the top end card when [H] probably chose not to list it. Bet on it that had the 680 been 30% faster then oh yeah it would have been the super duper boost mega edition.

Finally what does it matter about boost speeds for enthusiasts they just overclocks behond the boost anyway, in which case both cards can perform very well.

rusty, dint know if you know but you're eyefinity vs surround results were reposted on the overclock.net, where you have been accused of being biased for using games that favour AMD

Just the mentality of some people, to go on the defensive if they don't like the truth :(

Link please...I can't find it :)

In both threads rusty seems to be accused of being biased towards AMD by others even though he seemed very pro NV to me.

Just goes to show everyone sees what they want to see. I do not mean that in a negative way, if people prefer amd they see one thing and people pro nvidia see another!

And of course there are the people in the middle ground.

You'll always get some that try to pick holes in something thats blatantly obvious to the other 90% that read/comment.

Glad to see everyone starting to play nice in here as well ;)

It's a fair point regarding the lack of games. It wasn't supposed to be a completely comprehensive review though. If it was I'd be expecting to get paid for it! :) More a guide in today's games. I have no aspirations to become a hardware reviewer I'm more than happy being a business analyst for now! :D

To be fair it's one guy who can't accept it in thread one and then another in thread two. I can live with that.

To be fair, you can pick flaws with any review/graph/statement but common sense should prevail in the end. Sadly sometimes, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Yes that's how it can be but for me its more than that.

Its the reasons why and how a person puts themselves across and some reasons are very valid for preferring a brand.
Its when i see it as not being valid is when i tend to step in, it being a negative point i have no issue with as long as its the facts and not exaggerated and made out that's its exclusive to a brand when it is not.

^Totally agree, no bench is 100% perfect, I could run 3dmark/unigine 10 times and get 10 slightly different scores.

This is why we say ~5% difference in results between cards is pretty much irrelevant as any number of things could be upsetting the 'perfect' score :)

I only read the overclock.net thread and there's a good few guys in there supporting Rusty's results with there own findings.

I don't think anyone was saying the results were dodgy more my choice of games etc.

Of course they're either not aware of or ignoring the point that on Sleeping Dogs/Dirt Showdown the 680 is faster at 1080 without the AMD flavoured enhancements. The margin the 7950 is faster on the tests without the AMD enhancements is due to the 7950 just being outright better at high resolution.

The 680 matches and beats the 7970 in Sleeping Dogs, AA @ High if I remember correctly never mind the 7950 :). Extreme obviously crippled it but not to that much under a 7970 but definitely a fair chunk slower.

On the sleeping dogs benchmark tool i think the 7970 still has a slight advantage from looking at a few reviews. On the bit that H use to test the game the gtx680 was more playable. I think most people would use the benchmark tool so you will maybe get people differing to what's faster. Review below shows 7970 ghz speeds v gtx680 top 1137 core.

Nv's 310 drivers might have changed things about.

Looks pretty equal on single cards if you ask me considering your gtx680 was a nice clocker. So i am not really wrong as lower and higher clocking cards would most likely determine which card was faster in the bench.

i.e a 7970 at 1300 would be faster than yours and greg's really high clocking lightning would be faster again.

Another thing those results were done on the 9th of september before the release of 12.11 as you know things have changed.
