H100i placement

Hi,

Over a year I had the H100i, I had it placed vertically, roughly with the pipes down. Even under heavy load at 5Ghz, or 4800 for that matter, never exceeded 60C. It was always idling on high 20s.

However moving it to the roof of the new case my CPU idle is 46C barely any load (15%) and hits 66C!!!!!!!!

The fans are blowing cold air (from top down),
I didn't even dismantled it. Move motherboard and rad together. Same fans all working, checked cabling all powered. (checked the screws to the cpu also)

Just to check if I am getting insane, placed the rad vertically again, at the drive bay area, the temps plummet back to normal. High 20s while idle, 60C on full load.

My question is, has anyone experience that? Because I know almost everyone has their H100s on the roof. Surely some might have experience higher temps that should.

It's possible that there's air in the loop, and it shows a bit on the other placement. Though a 6c difference isn't really critical.

Another option is that the fans are working against natural convection (hot air moves upwards), so you might get better temps by having it blow out through the top, not in.

put one in my brother's pc last week and it was mounted at the front. idle was around 25*c and max temp during stress testing i5 3570k at 4.8ghz was only 66*c after 24h.

didn't try it at the top. had fans on inside pulling in from the front.

Yeah moved it on the front also.

@Make, that the hot air goes upward isn't the case

However possible bubble might be.

At least in a month it will be replaced with proper watercooling.

Nothing wrong with 66c. It would hit 95c+ if there was an issue, nothing to worry about.

66c on a cpu running 4.8+...That's good going imo, roughly the same temps when I pushed my 3770k to 5Ghz.

Considering that with the H100 vertical I never get more than 59C under full load. 66C at 15% was too much. If ever hits 95c I would RMA it (if still under warranty) because I will know is broken and not working.
