I just installed this on my 4770k. Idle temperatures are fantastic, anywhere around 32C. The problem is, the temperature jumps real quick and with prime it seems to hit 80C+ very easily before the fans kick in with force. I had a good air cooler on before and it was generally good at slowing down the temperature increase - am I expecting too much? Perhaps I need to reseat the unit?

Edit: Forgot to say, current CPU clock is 4.5Ghz.

Well I finally managed to get the link program working. Temps still on the high side - it is interesting that temperatures seem to spike into the 80s before the fans kick in even remotely fast. I guess I need to set a more aggressive profile. What surprises me is that the cpu is hitting 80C, yet the air out of the fans feels cool? Also, the radiator and pipes feel cool - so you would think they aren't drawing much heat. Yet, as soon as load is taken off the cpu, it instantly cools down, so something must be cooling it!

Air coming out the rad shouldn't feel particularly warm,at least not until after a sustained period of heavy load. With the way watercooling components works, ramping up fan speeds doesnt have the same impact on temps that it does with air cooling.

With your Vcore + clock speed in prime 80c doesn't seem too unreasonable in all honestly,.AIO's really arnt much better than a decent air cooler with good fans. :/

Best way to get substantially lower temps on haswell is to delid and replace the stock TIM between the Die and Heat spreader :)

Well I took it off and I could see that only about 50% of the cpu was in contact with the heatsink. So put it back on, but this time tightened the screws a lot more - was afraid to over tighten the first time. Now getting a peak of 65C-70C with prime which is much more what I was expecting under load. Will tighten the screws a little more tomorrow, clearly it was needed. I am always afraid the cpu will break!

That's good to hear! More what i was expecting to see!

And in a heartbeat, the screw snapped...doh! Didn't even seem tight on that corner, was actually pretty loose. Now I am stuffed :(

Will see if I can get a replacement or something I guess. Any ideas?

Might enquire in the shop where I bought it.

I'd contact the corsair rep or send them an email and see if they can send you some more out?

With my H55 i had the plastic backplate stripped so i had to hold the stops with a pair of pliers to tighten it.

Have sent them an email, hopefully they can send a couple out. Irritating since that is pretty much out of action now until I can get a replacement. Should have left it alone! Oh well, hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

Approved 1 minute after I put in the support ticket. Let's see how long it takes them to get this sent out :)

There must have been a defect in the metal, it shouldn't have broken that easily.

Yeah, they accept the ticket but you'll never actually get the part :p

Not definitely not, How is the build quality otherwise?

Other than the dodgy screw, the rest of the setup is fantastic. Especially those temperatures I briefly got when it was working well. Who wants a bet I never get it that good again :p

They better sent me out a bag of screws and not just one...I don't want the same to happen again!
