H2 Transfer to a new a new xbox?

Okay so this is probably a real stupid question and i have searched elsewhere and am still stumped.

We have a family xbox in the lounge, i have just bought my son a new 250gb slim 360 for his birthday now comes the problem, how do i get all his saves and purchases (he is a heavy user of the console with lots on there) onto his new 360 and how do i keep all my saved games on the old 360?

I am a light user not a gold member unlike my son so if i have to loose everything so be it as long as i can transfer his info.

I bought the 250gb hard drive for the old xbox so have a cable for it somewhere just not sure what to do.

I used a flash drive in the end when I did mine.

If it was me, I would copy all my saves across via a USB stick and re-download any other stuff from the account management page. Then use the licence transfer option to move the licences.

Or rather transfer the licences and then re-download (as webpage explains).
