H440 Build Quality...

Hi guys,

Received my H440 today from OcUK - Impressed by the small factor and clean looks!

Couple of things that erk me though - build quality of my specific case. Aside from a scratch at the very back of the top panel, and one on the front panel's black plastic (it's right at the top of the front panel :/), the solid side panel's foam is not only poorly cut but also has not been stuck on properly on a corner, leaving it flapping about...small issues of sorts, but I was wondering if an NZXT sales rep was present here on the forums?

A pic or two (ignore the finger in the pic of the scratches on the top panel, it was purely to get my phone to focus):
pics are too large to put directly in here so... http://imgur.com/a/UjaUM

My Phantom 820 was the same, had blistering on the inside panels, and a broken fan that just snapped in transit, not the same quality as Corsair cases imo, only ever buy Nzxt or Corsair so far :)

This case (due to no PWM control on the fans) is actually LOUDER than my previous case, a CM Storm Sniper, which is almost ENTIRELY Mesh!

I advise buying an NZXT Grid (which i'm about to) so you can pwm these fans as the case itself is disappointingly loud due to the airflow. Other than that, it's a nice case

The NZXT Grid is a 3pin fan hub not a pwm hub m8

I read a build somewhere where somebody replaced the fan hub in the h440 with an NZXT Grid, and managed to hook it up to the motherboard and control it through speedfan?

Would be far better than fans at 100% all the time either way :/

Wow, that sound proofing is thinner than OCuk gaming surface.
Do yourself a favor and get 2 sq meters of insulation foam on ebay, it's so much better and have the adhesive as well.

Hi all..

The picture is very misleading..due to the angle of the shot and the fact that there's still some of the sticky backing on show, it doesn't really show the foam too well..it's about the thickness of a mouse mat or so, and this came direct from OcUK so it's entirely legit.

Managed to get the paper off the bottom corner but it took a bit of fiddling..still doesn't explain why a case that's packaged so nicely actually has scratch/scuff marks on areas UNDER where the styrofoam is :(

Someone on reddit did that. You need to use a female to female 3 pin fan lead, to connect the motherboard to the hub thats already installed. Then you could control the fans using voltage control. Neither the preinstalled hub or the grid are compatible with 4 pin fans.. Bear in mind that you shouldnt be powering 5 fans from one single header either, might damage your motherboard

(coincidentally, the pre installed fan hub is just a grid with no shiney cover)

So in short, I should be looking online for a "3pin female to female" lead?
I purchased this item to see if it'd reduce the voltage from 12v to 7v, but alas it did nothing:

I'll return it, and my next idea is to buy this thing which looks more like it'd do the job due to the wiring which suggests it'd actually do something this time:

Could you confirm it'd work at all? :)

My final phase in getting this system quieter is to sell off my OCZ ZT 750w psu in favour of something where the fan doesn't spin up until 30-50% load (input on this appreciated, have heard good things on corsair's zm/ax series but they're expensive!) so I can at least idle and lightly game with relative silence.

Thanks again

Yeah. However, i could only find them in the US, couldnt find any in the UK. However, the nzxt Grid comes with one apparently.

Umm. Arent they both the same cable, only one is braided and the other isnt? I honestly dont know a great deal about cabling. I see you've posted in the other thread about the H440. I personally just use my motherboard headers to control the fans, and bypass the hub completely.

Mine came absolute fine from ocuk so maybe just unlucky, get it sent back for swapping if you can!

Are they? I thought for sure the braided one has missing wires...then again perhaps the ground wires are just black so it's the same thing :/

Would you possibly be able to grab a picture of how your fans are hooked up? Doesn't it mess with the look of the inside of the case having fan wires everywhere?

Thanks again

I don't know, but i would assume so.

Honestly, there isnt much to see in the front of the case cause you can hide the wires behind the motherboard tray

At the back its a little more untidy, but i'm not completely finished yet so havent used many cable ties yet

With that damage i Would be sending that back instantly, And requesting that ocuk pay the return postage.

The customer service here is usually pretty good so should be no problems getting your
Money back.
