H50 airflow idea/question

Hi,

I’ve been toying with the idea of using some large diameter tubing, (maybe something flexible like a bit of old vacuum cleaner hose), to direct the air from my H50 to the front of my Antec 900 case and out of my last spare 5.25” bay.
The question is, what would be the minimum diameter I could get away with before back pressure begins to affect the airflow/cooling?

I don't NEED to do this for cooling but thought it might be a good experiment.

If you do this it would make more sense to have it as an intake I think, exhausting the air out the back like everything else does anyway. You've got a lot of hot air coming out of the graphics cards and being drawn into the H50 if it's drawing in from the back.

The bigger the better really regarding tube size. I'd try to match it to the diameter of the fan. Can always try various tubing sizes to see what difference it makes to temperatures.

Ducting is a good thing for airflow if done sensibly, a structure made out of cardboard may work just as well. It'll keep you amused for a while at least, hope you report back any findings

Ah good point about using the ducting as an intake instead. The only thing I could see against that would be the ducting itself becoming warm in the case and in turn warming up the air before it gets to the rad. I shall try both way though.

I don't think I'll be able to using ducting the same diameter as the fan, (120mm), not enough room. Might get something about 60-80mm in there though.

If you fashion some sort of reducer it'll be fine, a cone that's 120mm across at one and and 60 at the other perhaps? I'm interested to see how you solve this one, the 5.25" bay isn't a very convenient shape for 60 or 80mm tubing.

I have a 140mm fan directly opposite my H50 which has 2xapaches exhausting out the rear, the 140mm fan pull cool air into the case from the front and dircts it toward the rear. works just fine.
