Posting here rather than the watercooling topic because I know which way the discussion is going to sway.

I'v e seen a couple of people rip open their h50 and modify it, One guy fitted a reservoir into it, which apparantly gave a 10 degrees reduction in core temps (im guessing farenheit)

Another fitted a 240mm radiator onto his.

My h50 isn't doing so well right now, idles at 42. Which is pants because my q9400 (previous rig) used to idle at 35. Which is barely warm (body temp).

Is it worth modding the h50, either added a reservoir or a 240mm radiator, or perhaps even both?

Or should I just upgrade to proper watercooling kit?

I don't really overclock, just want to get my 2500k down to 35 degree idle, because the PWM fan on my h50 currently goes bezerk when there are lots of processes running and temp rises.

well the fan is spinning up because cpu is hot. It's on the silent setting so it's as low as it can be.

Doesn't really answer my question.

That's really what I'm trying to get my head round. Selling me h50 will get me £30 tops, typical would be £25.

I think this could be a fun project, even with 2x120mm rads.

Getting a cheap 120mm rad could allow me to upgrade my setup for really cheap.

I'll bee keeping my eye on the MM, if I can get a 120mm rad for £10 it could be a fun project to do compared to buying a whole loop for £100 minimum.

I dunno much about physics but I think the h50 pump will get knackered, a few people in the h50 mod threads posted earlier have even said that the h50 pump dies soon after a radiator upgrade.

I'm going for a watercooling rig just for the challenge of it, also I know that modding the h50 will be bad news as I will be tempted to fit the modief h50 back in ASAP. I need to be patient with my first watercooling job, and I don't want to rush it. Doing a whole new watercooling loop will be best as I can test it and tweak it to perfection before I swap out the h50 for the loop.

Talking of which, anyone have recommendations for a good silent pump for 2500k and gpu? on a thick 240mm rad? I'm thinking of these drive bay pump and reservoir combos. Failing that a good pump + res that can work from the floor of the case.
