i love the newer low profile pump assembly of the H70, but i dont need the big radiator and two fans to cool my system, what i would like is a hybrid, the H70 pump, and the H50 rad.

whcih is said to be the better pump out of the two, or is there bugger all difference except size?

I've had both, and for me the H70 was no better than the H50.

Don't know if it was the combination of fans I was using, or how my rig is laid out, but I got absolutely no benefit from changing my H50 to a H70.

Temps were exactly the same.

Noise wise the pumps were the same for me.

The H70 pump seems to get much hotter than the H50 version.

The H70 is also harder to fit as the hoses are shorter, and come out at a strange angle from the block, making twisting and fitting the unit much more fiddly.

On the whole I'd say save yourself some cash and get the H50-1.

hmm.not sure about the corsairs but i originally had the fenrir titan.i was'nt happy with my temps so i got a coolit eco alc.still not happy with temps,i don't really think they are worth it over a good air cooler,so i have ordered a noctua nh-d14 as everyone seems to rate them and it should give me better results over the coolit and i would think the corsair.i know it's massive but low temps are more important i think

From some of the reviews I watched and read on the H50, it is comparable with the big air coolers. I got it over a big air cooler for 2 reasons of - its smaller in the case meaning easier access to ram etc and secondly because (in theory) it should be quieter due to 1 fan instead of 2 or 3. So I would say H50 / H70 cooler or an air one? That depends on your personal reasoning.

Assuming though you have already decided on the closed kit, I would say H50 overthe H70. The couple of degrees difference being reported aren't big enough to warrent the difference in prices IMO and other problems listed above it seems the H50 is the better choice.

A review I saw that the few degrees difference can almost be made up by adding another fan to the H50

+1

Friend of mine has the H50 and tried out the H70 and ended up sending it back as it didnt improve cooling enough to justify replacing the H50.

I know one thing, and that is you have to remove the thermal compound that comes pre-laid on the water block.

I just installed my H70 yesterday and wasn't happy at all with the temps compared to my Zalman. My Q9450 @ 3.6 was still maxing out at 66c compared to 73c with my Zalman during prime. So I removed the block and re-seated with Arctic MX-3 using the pea method and my max temp has dropped right down to 58c. Even the IntelBurnInTest only maxed out at 64c.

There's a 7c difference in this review between a H50 dual fan and H70;

If you want high overclocks and are limited to choosing between a H50/H70, I'd say the H70 is a no-brainer. 7c can be all the difference between killing or saving your CPU.
