I always thought of i5s and P55s going together, and recently I built a machine with an H55 and i3 which overclocked perfectly to 4GHz and is running very nicely.
Now I am parting together another rig and it would help to save money getting an H55 mobo instead of a P55 one as I want to put an i5 in it this time. Are there any drawbacks to this?
The planned rig:
i5 750
Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Intel H55
ATI 5770 gpu (possible xfire later - good idea?)
4GB DDR3
I suppose it is about time for quad cores to be properly utilised, so would getting an i3 instead and saving £50 be a bad option? A few months ago I was happy to go down the dual core route but are times going to change? And does HT help at all with the i3 when quads do better than dual for the same task?
