H60 pump sound - can I use fan controller?

So after much toying about, I've confirmed to myself that the pump on the H60 AIO I have is definitely responsible for the only audible sound from my PC. Kind of a low frequency humming.

It is currently running constantly at the full 12v, and shows around 4700 RPM in both Windows and the BIOS.

My question is, should I mess about with this? For example, if using a fan controller I halved the pump speed RPM... would I be asking for trouble, or would all be well providing temps were still okay?

Apologies, I now realise that should have probably been posted in the 'Watercooling' section.

Anyway, I've just tried using a 3-pin fan speed reducer and lowered the RPM to ~3000... sounds worse so that idea is scrapped!

Hey jumeeno,
I too have a H-60 and I had a loud humming/noise from the pump. I bought a "3 Pin Cooling Fan Speed Controller"
I slowly reduced the RPM of the pump until it stopped making a noise, which turned out to be 3350RPM. It has been quiet ever since and I have not seen any noticeable impact on cooling performance (AMD Phenom II x6 @stock clocks - running prime95).
I did notice the the noise got a lot worse just before the noise stopped.

Hope this helps.

Thanks DZ. To be honest, I'm back at the full ~4700 RPM now and it seems okay(ish) again. I reckon I'll go air cooling again next time though!

ive got the exact same problem with my h60, i reduced it to 7v and it helped but was still anoying so back to 12v.

Now im thinking its a good excuse as any to get a custom loop :-)
