H60 Replacement

Hi guys im looking for some advice on my options.

I currently have a H60 on exhaust push pull with 2xsp120 high pressure fans. I'm looking to try and improve my cpu temps when heavily overclock. My current setup handles a mild overclock nicely of 4.5ghz but once i go extreme it can't keep up. Noise is also an issue once i have to turn the sp120's up full blast.

What are my options? Things to consider are my accelero dumps heat in the case at two points. Near the core which goes out through the H60 and near the pci-e connections which gets exhausted out the top 200m. This keeps my gpu/vrm temps very low considering the heat that it dumps in the case.

I was initially thinking about adding a phanteks ph-tc14pe to my case and pointing it upwards so that it can blow towards the 200mm exhuast, but it doesn't look like it will fit. Having it exhausting towards the back would be ok, but the heat from the vrm side of the accelero then won't have a natural exhaust up with the phantek in the way.

The other option i can see is upgrading the H60 to a H80i and keeping my setup the same but i can't see this making much of a difference.

Here is a pic of my current setup. I'd like something that will go with my current theme, hence i was thinking about the blue Phanteks.

I really don't want to lose my top 200mm fan if possible as its a good way to exhaust the heat my accelero dumps in the case.

Suggestions welcome. :)

Is it just temps which are causing you to swap it out?
Could you not get some better fans for it?

Temps are ok, but for extreme overclocking its gets too warm.

I'm under the impression that i have the best performing fans possible. The static pressure on these things is the highest ive seen.

Size: 120mm x 25mm
Operating Voltage: 7V – 12V
Performance at 12V
Airflow: 62.74 CFM
Static Pressure: 3.1 mm/H20
Sound Level: 35 dBA
Speed: 2350 RPM
Power Draw: 0.18 A

Fair enough.

Do you have spacers between the fans & rad? I would imagine, if you can space the fans from the RAD, you'd cover the deadspot which may give you some kind of reduction in temp.

There is allways the H100i with 2 push & 2 pull, but using spacers & your current fans.

I don't know, didn't even cross my mind tbh. Not sure how much that would help with temps though. How much cooler will the Phanteks be than my current setup?

I don't want a H100 as that means id have to lose my top exhaust 200mm fan, i want to keep that as its a good and sensible way to exhaust case heat, especially as my accelero dumps some heat in the case.

Could i have the phanteks blowing up towards my 200mm fan? If i couldn't then maybe its not such a good idea. I wanted the back 120m fan to be intake as well to help give me positive pressure as currently i have negative, although i do get generally good temps.

Looking at the size of that thing, im not sure its possible.

According to that it should fit, just i think.

Hey LtMatt,

The PH-TC14PE series will fit in your rig. For maximum performance we recommend facing the rear. It's possible to face top but you will sacrify 1-2 degrees with this setup.

Thanks i purchased your cooler. However im not sure my temps are as good as they should be. For a start with the cooler mounted and the screws as tight as i can turn them the unit moves ever so slightly, the heatsinks move back and forth a tad.

Running prime95 small fft for 10 minutes @4.5ghz on a 2700k with a voltage of 1.25 saw temps reach 66c. This seems rather high to me.

I ran a 10 minute extreme run on prime as well and saw these temps. Do these look normal for this cooler?

Just did a 10min large FFT run and hit 61c with one fan @1250rpm. Cpu @4.5, 1.376v.
Is your extreme setting custom?
Currently running small FFT test. Update: 62c.

I think you're right about the mounting being dodgy. I have no idea how to get mine into the 80's with turning the fans off and the phanteks is a bit better than the K2...

Well ive tried it both ways the only way to try now is to have it facing up.

EDIT

Its going back.

That sucks man...

Was it a dodgy mount and are you gonna try a replacement?

I bought it b grade from a company who i cannot name. Lets just say they are a 'Tech' company from the uk that deals in water cooling. They are 'special'.

It was £40+£5 delivery. I thought it was worth a punt.

They told me it was a new and un-opened item, it had some minor damage to one of the heatsink fins, but it looked to me as if it had been opened and sent back to them.

Reading their terms and conditions it says they will only refund it the item can be sold again as new.

This is what i get from not buying from ocuk i guess.

The phanteks rep above contacted me via trust, im replying to him hope he can help.

Wow, Phanteks have just made a customer for life with their support over this. This is what i just received from Phanteks support.

"Hello LtMatt,

We feel very sorry that *********** had sold you a B-grade unit ( no refund or warranty will be granted).

Nevertheless we hope you are willing to send the unit to:

Axpertec BV
Sydneystraat 33-35
3047 BP Rotterdam
The Netherlands

After we have received the unit, we will send you a brand new unit with full warranty. For all the troubles you have been through, we shall add a third free fan in the package.

Hope to have you informed sufficiently, and again sorry for the bad experience with our product.

Best,
Yun"

Phanteks contacted me via trust off of their own back and offered help. Very impressed with that for customer service and will happily recommend Phanteks products to many people from now on. :)

Spectacular result!
I'm tempted to go Phanteks just to support a great company.
Wonder if I should test Alpenfohn regarding the clicky 140mm fan I have? :D

Well they've made a customer in me that's for sure. The place i got it from will never see my business again. I gave a good clue to who they are in my earlier post should anyone else wish to avoid them as well. Damn cowboys.

Petey come and join me with a phanteks. With our (well when you get a new 7950 :p) radeons and custom gpu coolers we will need to discuss tactics to make sure the Phanteks and our Accelero/Peter work side by side to keep those vrm temps in check lol.

I did notice higher vrm temps on my accelero when i had the phanteks exhausting out the back, although as we know my cooler was dodgy.

EDIT

Holy smokes petey you need 1.375 for 4.5ghz?

Haha, if and when I grab another 79xx, my cooling solution won't care about what's cooling the cpu since it ejects the heat straight out of the side ;)

I don't think my cpu NEEDS 1.376v, it's just that I can't be arsed to overclock it properly :D I just set the multiplier to 45 and let it do it's thing.

Wait, you're retiring from the after market cooling gpu scene? Noooooooo. We need experienced heads when times are tough and vrm temps rise in the summer time. :D

What cooler will you be getting?

You could probably do 4.6-4.8ghz at that voltage. Bet you could trim a bit off that if you wanted.

No retirement mate, I'm on about the Peter and the way I had it set up :)

I really do need to read up on how to OC my cpu properly tbh... 'Tis a bit shameful :o

I'm not as bad as doyll though :p

As yes my bad i forgot you had more fans than elvis in your setup. :p

Yep that's not an option for me as it needs to look nice when i look through the side window. Still im open to new ideas and suggestions when it comes to fiddling. :D

'More fans than elvis' haha! :D I only had 4 on the gpu cooler, one on the K2 and 4 in the case after putting it on a diet and it looked awesome to me at least ;)
Don't make me start spamming pics again...

No idea what you can do with the Accelero, as it's pretty much a self-contained unit.
The Peter is just a big 'ol heatsink and a fan bracket that asks YOU what you feel like doing :D

Post some pics up, i thought it did look pretty cool actually and im convinced that would help drop my temps a lot. However i don't ever think i could make it work or look acceptable in my setup.

I really like the look of the Accelero, its convinced me to do it again whenever i get a new gpu. However the vrm still needs work or they need to add better heatsinks. Also make some more G1 god dammit.

The peter is a big old lump thats for sure, but as long as it does the job thats all that matters i guess. Each to their own, but if i had my time again i still think id go for the accelero.

Thanks doyll, good luck with the cpu overclocking. :D

The stuff they are kindly going to send me is as follows

1 x PH-TC14PE_BL
1 x PH-F140TS_BL
1 x PWM adaptor

Yeah it does look good and it definitely goes with the look of your case. That just won't fly in mine though. I will have some decisions to make once i get the phantek. I need to think how im going to exhaust the two heat zones on the accelero. One being the core which is near the rear and one being the vrm which is near the pci-e cables.

The vrm will be the main problem as the phantek cooler will be right in the way.

I wouldn't worry about the core. Let the Accelero heatsink deal with that.
The VRM bit may be tricky if you want to keep it looking clean. Also, the arctic vrm heatsinks are 90° the wrong way for optimal channeling to the side if you get me?

Yeah not much i can do tbh. Use better heatsinks and use the new G1 whenever that arrives.

I'm looking for some review sites where i can post the bad customer service that this special company provided me. Anyone got any suggestions?

Just want to warn people to avoid them to avoid the hassles that ive had to go through.
