Hey guys,

I am looking to do a upgrade for a friend, his budget is £180, and I have decided that a i3 2100 and a 1155 motherboard would suit him (anything better> Maybe AMD APU?) . He currently has 8GB of DDR3 that he can use, but my question is if I get him a h61 say a MSI H61M-E33 would he be able to use his 2x4gb sticks of DDR3, or does that board only take a certain ammount?

He got some XMS 8gb 1600mhz which is 2x4GB sticks

**EDIT**

Just had a look around and asked a friend and it seems the a AMD A8 will give him a GPU increase over his current 9600GT, seems thats the one to go for, he will get more RAM, new motherboard and better graphics

What case does he have? will it take a ATX board?

What PSU?

Are the drives all SATA?

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Llano A8-3870K 3.00GHz (Socket FM1) APU Processor (AD3870WNGXBOX) £109.99
1 x Asus F1A75-M AMD A75 Chipset (Socket FM1) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £66.00
Total : £186.79 (includes shipping : £9.00).

Is what I think he will go for.

reasons:

He currently has a 9600gt, the a8 beats it in the games he plays.
It can support DDR3 ram so he can use his XMS3 stuff.

Very good.

Just make sure the drives he has are all SATA including the DVD drive.

eek just checked his PSU seems to be some CCIVO 600w oem jobby. But it does power his 9600gt with a single 6pin. Looking around a 9600 draws 197w at full load and a 6850 draws 246w at full load.
