H70 fan replacement

They are 4pin PWM style like a motherboards CPU header.

On the description in the shop it says 3/4pin. Unfortunately I will only get them if they are 3pin as the way the cable management is done in my computer means that all the spare 4pin connects are tucked away miles away from the fans, in sheaths or cable ties and therefore I do not want to undo it all for the sake of re-doing all the cables just to get a 4pin connector up there when there are plenty of 3pin alternatives (although not quite as good).

Can anyone clarify?

4 pin connectors will hook up to 3 pin sockets, they just overhang on one side. Check there are no capacitors right next to the 3 pin socket and you should be good to go.
Would the power to the fan be the same?

Also, to make sure nothing shorted would a bit of insulation tape sort that problem out?

So I feel a bit silly now, turns out the 3pin connects I am using for the h70 are actually 4pin -> 3pin adaptors and therefore if I got a 4pin extension I could make it all work the same without any changes - is there any benefit to this or would preformance of the fans be the same with just plugging it into the 3pin?

Performance is the same, you just dont get any PWM control (i.e- its slows the fans down etc)
