H70 or Air

Hi Guys,
im a bit of a noob  when it comes to closed loop water based CPU cooling, and am in the process of buying for a new build to do some overclocking with a 1100T, as the title suggests i am wanting some info on H70 is it worth it or can better results be achieved from air (and is so which is best)? money is not really an issue as long as its quality.

Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

Cheers

Heard mixed reports of the H70. I didnt use one due to my machine travels to lans and a Heatsink and fan will last the trip better than water slushing around in the rad and pipes.

I also get the same temps as a H70 does so very little point.

The best air coolers would probably be one of the dual radiator types such as the Noctua DH-14 or the Thermalright Silver Arrow (Be Quiet have just launched one but not sure how this one fares). The Prolimatech Megahalems is apparently very good too. All of these coolers are top end and therefore quite expensive but will probably give better temperatures than the noisy H70.

I bought a H70 for my new PC and it was extremely noisy, changed the fans on it to Apache Blacks and you can barely hear it now. I preferred this over the Noctua DH-14 as i didnt want a huge heatsink and from the reviews i read there wasnt much difference between the two temperature wise.

There are better air coolers (like the ones mentioned above) than the H70 but with the H70 you have a cooler that takes up much less space and is better for case temps and for fitting RAM. (plus looks much tidier)
It's important to take into consideration the RAM clearance when thinking of purchasing a high tower cooler as many block RAM slots or get in the way of RAM with high heatsinks on them. (the Noctua DH-14 is particularly bad for this) A H70 you will not have these issues.
Generally you can use a big air cooler if you aren't using the RAM slot closest to the CPU but there are some that can cause issues so be warned.
I have the Thermalright Venomous X with a pair of Noctua NF-P12 on it and it doesn't interfere with the RAM slots at all on my Asus Board.
It's also very annoying when the pump dies in 1 of those self contained water coolers. After owning a Cool IT i won't be buying one again. There is nothing to go wrong with a good air cooler other than a fan might need changing every few years. Your H70 dies you are stuck without the use of that PC until you can buy a replacement. (even if I didn't have a spare fan I could easily run my V-X H/S passively without a fan on it worse case scenario.)
The H70 is a good product from what I have read. It depends what will best suit your case, motherboard and needs which you would be better off with. I no longer trust the pathetic little pumps that those self contained water coolers use. They don't seem ideal to be used in a comp that runs 24/7 or any long amount of time. I'm sure the lifespan of those pumps would (should) last several years on a pc that had average amount of use though. Saying that.. I won't be trusting one again.
Some points you might want to keep in mind when deciding between these two types of CPU cooling.

Again guys thanks, its going on a CH IV Extreme and 1100T only using 2 RAM slotts so should be fine with a larger cooler, the case is NZXT Phantom.

Cheers

All in one water coolers are a gimmick they are about as good as £30 air coolers.
Get a thermalright archon if it fits, should do you need 170mm from the cpu socket to side panel.

Thinking of an Archon myself C64. Not sure if there will be enough room in a CM690 II, looks like around 7mm clearance but that may include the cable management space behind the motherboard tray. Need to keep an eye open for someone that has tried it....

Ok Been looking at the Noctua NH-D14 its £10 cheaper than the H70 and has some awsome reviews, unless anyone can advise me against it i think thats the one i will go with.

Cheers
