i swapped out my old coolermaster V6 Gt for a corsair h80i lastnight and I foun the temps to be extremely warm and the fans to be quite loud.

I am looking to replace the fans with sp120's asap but the high temp is worrying.

I have read that putting washers behind the back plate will solve this as the contact of the HS/Pump to the CPU is not good enough.

Has anyone else had experience of this?

asus p7p55d-evo 1156 mobo
i7 870

Temps idle at 40~ highs on prime 95 ive seen 84 and shut it down!
On the coolermaster v6 idle around 37 highs about 65

Something isnt right

Can't really give advice about it but I had a H80i and my idle temps were between 20C and 30C. It did start to get hotter during gaming where it would normally be around mid-60s and this was with a 4.2GHz OC.

I did have a Coolermaster Seidon 120V that I got free with my mobo which was on par, if not better than the H80i. I personally don't think it's a very good cooler tbh.

It looks like the Asus mobo's are a shade thinner than other makers,

It is a known thing based on the forums. I got an h80i for a really good deal, brand new so i couldnt turn it down.

I just wondered if anyone has had to do the washer fix? It looks like a lot of people suggest it - it comes iwth 4 washers but no mention of using them for 1156 in the manual so I didn't.

Some people say use 4, some use 8 - anyone who has done this would be great to hear from them.

Either its not mounted correctly, or as you described not getting proper contact, some Asus motherboards are very thin.

Try a pushing down on top of the pump and see if the temps go down while you do it.

I'll take it off this evening and put the washers on, when I took it off last night I could see only part of the TIM was in contact, I just wondered if anyone here had done the washer method described in the corsair forums?

If you can, return the H80i and get a better cooler. Like any of the top tier air cooler.
Silver Arrow, NH-D14, K2, TRUE Spirit 140 Power or 140 rev.A, NH-U14S, Archon, Dark Rock Pro 3, and the list goes on n' on n'on.
Don't cost as much, quieter, last longer, and only a fan to give you problems after several years. Pumps are a whole different bag of trouble.

Returning is not an option, I dont have a great deal of room in the case hence why I bought an h80i.

I have a quality cooler, the coolermaster v6gt does fine, it was just a tad noisy, I could have replaced the fans but thought I'd venture into the AIO world.

There are some very good coolers about the same size ass V6GT (131x120x165mm). TRUE Spirit 140 rev.A is wider but with it's offset base is only 69mm center CPU toward PCIe socket and 53mm toward RAM with fan (155x79.4x155mm WxDxH) . It cools like NH-D14 and is slightly quieter. Problem is no retailers here in UK have it, and to order one in from Europe is stupid money. Another option is Macho Rev.B with new 300-1300rpm TY-147A fan. It's 140x102x162nn (WxDxH) with center CPU toward PCIe 70mm and front of cooler with fan is 53mm toward RAM. They are in UK at reasonable prices.
